What's the opinion poll? The regular powder that you get in the pail is "high efficiency", so I bought some for the Dexter FL. It makes next to no suds, even when you double the amount. I am always tempted to use more when it's only one little scoop. Comments?

I have used the HE in the pail with Oxy-clean in all types of machines, and like it very much. Smells good, seems to clean well, no suds and, when on sale for $10.00...can't be beat!!!! Then I can use the pail when I wash the car!!!!!!!lol

I've used the same formula as coldspot66 and liked it very much. Waiting for it to go on sale again, but may try the stainfighter version next time.

I often use the HE with oxy-clean as well and have always been pleased with the results. We have very soft water and in my front loading Westinghouse even half a scoop sometimes makes to many suds. All in all I don't think you can beat it. Terry

I'm using the Oxy stuff, I think. It comes in a big pail. Before that, I used the kind that came in an orange cardboard box.

Both of 'em work fine, are cheap, and a box/pail lasts practically forever.

It's the only powder I use. If I need liquid, I use Purex or Cheer. The Sears powder in the orange box is great for most of the laundry. Hardly any suds, rinses well and the smell is not overwhelming.

I always use Sears brand, the orange box, its great for most any soiled loads. I have a pail of oxiclean that I sometimes use on really stained clothing (oil, butter, etc.), it does get the stains out but I think it's hard on the fabric so I limit the use.
I read a thread about Fab and would like to retry that brand again, its been many years since I've used it. I'm still searching for that Salvo smell that I loved so much as a kid, alas I think it's a thing of the past. As for the mango Gain, I'll pass thank-you.

I recently started using the "free and clear" version of powdered HE detergent that comes in the pail. My only complaint is that is doesn't dissolve properly on the "cold wash" setting. (I live in an apartment and have to rely on coin operated Maytags.) Even when I add the detergent after I've started the machine and wait a few minutes for it to dissolve before adding clothes. (I now bring a bottle downstairs with me. I dissolve the detergent in hot water from the laundry sink and pour it into the machine after I've started it but before I put in the laundry.)

I've been useing the Advanced formula Ultra Plus with Fabbric softener. Now I'm not much for 2 in 1 Products, but this stuff works great!!!!!!. I have very soft water here as well and 1 little scoop in my HE3 works great. Rinses out clean (last rinse is always crystal clear) and I truly don't need a seprate fabric softner. and at $16 for 125 load you can't be the price. I also think it cleans just as well as tide or anyother major supermarket/national brand.

It's the primary powder that I use in my Neptune 7500. I cut it 1/3 with STPP, which helps to get out ground in dirt and greasy/oily stains.

I'm working on a bunch of the stuff, in pails, that I got from Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) a few years ago. I gather the formula hasn't changed much, although now i see that they've replaced the version with "color safe bleach" with "Oxyclean". I use the "color safe bleach" variety on whites on the hot setting, also cut with STPP. Gives great results.

Regarding cold water use... it's a good idea to use warm or hot water with any powder. The washing soda, which usually makes up the bulk of a powdered detergent's active ingredients, doesn't dissolve well in cold water. For cold water, a liquid might be best, or maybe Cold Water Tide HE.

Thanks all you fine folks! I read about Persil in many threads, but have never seen it the Boston area. Am I looking in the wrong places? And what is STPP and where is this found? Ray, I need to wangle a Costco card! Launderess?

Tide Coldwater powder is not an "HE" detergent per se, and if one is not careful about dosage will create mounds of suds in a front loader. Be this as it may, several posters including myself have had good results using Tide CW in our front loaders.

While wash water can be sudsy, with proper dosing, rinse water is clear by second or third rinse. IMHO Tide CW cleans better, rinses easier, and makes less suds than Tide HE powder.

Persil Detergent

Bobby, You can get Persil at the link below.

www.totalvac.com Look for laundry detergents. It is a few dollars more here, but I think they throw in free shipping. There are also other websites out there. Now... I got mine from a Miele Dealer, ( as Laundress states), but boy did I get a bargain. They only charged me 25.00 instead of 40.00. I bought one for a friend and one for myself.

Tide Coldwater

Thanks for the info on the Tide Coldwater. I use it now, but being I have a frontloader, it would have been nice. And...yes it does clean and rinse well. I just have to cut down on it a bit.
