Sears Cda 1981: TOL vacuum cleaner

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Oh what a beauty!!

That model pictured is identical to the US models for 1979-80. The US 1981 models had white trim instead of rust. I don't remember what the US model cost for 1981, but I do remember the 1976 model that I have sold new for about $240 in the catalog, $250 in the stores.
These machines were pricey, especially since they mostly plastic, and Sears vacuums weren't known for being very long lived. I remember buying bags at Sears in the 80's for an early 70's machine, and the sales lady couldn't believe a 10+ year old machine was still running.
I do know that about the same time(1981) you could buy a TOL Hoover Celebrity QS with Quadreflex p/n for about $225.
These Kenmores are fun, and IMHO very collectible machines today.

I can remember White-and Yellow two-tone machines like these that I used at a radio station-they ordered one for the studio and another for the transmitter. The transmitter was manned at the time-the station had a "trade" account with Sears-the station "purchased" Sears items in exchange for running ad time for them-worked out well.Anyway-those Sears canisters vacuumed out their studios and transmitters. What seemed to kill them was the poor filtration of the single layer paper bags used at the time-the dust would kill the motor.

Mom had the fancy best blue model

The now vintage suction only eureka vacuum could not cut the mustard on the carpets in the house when we moved to Laffy in 77

We might have pictures of it but it is the same one as PeteK
has in his collection

Sears bags...

Micro bags weren't even thought of back then, the bags on these cleaners leaked at the front, where they connected on the cleaner. They all had that rubber mouth(like electrolux) and the dirt would escape out from there when the pressure inside the bag got too great...

Imagine these cleaners would work better with a different bag intake seal and Filtrete or even lined bags.Since some of these old oldies are still around-there would be a market for such bags. For plastic machines they were not too bad.Didn't some of them have metal bottoms? I could vaguely remember that.the top part of the machine was plastic.
