Sears Kenmore Heavy Duty Washer Model 110.7204700

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

This was kind of the "successor" to our Kenmore 800.  Some models in this series had a porcelain tub I believe--which this one doesn't.

IIRC, tubs were always porcelain.....

tops and lids were sometimes painted on very low end models.....

this one has way too many buttons to be considered low end......

Gordon would know for sure.....

the splash shield eventually was changed to plastic.......and I think there was talk of a plastic outter tub.....just before the DD came out...

1972 700 series

This is a 1972 700 series. Sears catalogs refer to them as 700s not 70s for some reason. This one is the introductory issue of this model since it's model number ends in 700. Later revised models ended in '701, 703, etc.

One of the revisions to the machine indeed was the plastic tub ring, which was added in early 1973.

There was a flirtation with plastic outer tubs at about this time. I am not sure how many models this encompassed, but every one I have ever seen (like three machines total) was in the same 1973 KM 60-series plastic control panel model.

This model for sale is a very nice machine. There isn't much missing in the way of features that would be needed on a daily basis, but there were two models above this machine, the 800 and the garage door Lady K 900 for those wanting even more.

Belt Drive Washers With A Plastic Outer Tub.

I have one of these tubs from a 1972-3 Kenmore washer, these first and only plastic outer tubs in WP built BD washers still used a porclean on steel tub cover. I saved this outer tub to put in a BD washer that I will rebuild sometime in the future.

Its too bad that WP didn't switch to plastic outer tubs in all its washers back in the 70s, millions of BD washers would have had much longer lives. Just yesterday I ran a service call on a 1986 BD WP model LA6800XPW0 and the belt would start slipping because water was leaking from the outer tub. We almost never see DD WP built washers that leak from the outer tub and if you do they are very fixable.
