Now that this once proud institution is non-existent (at least in Hawaii), I've always wondered who will honor, if at all, the extended warranty claims thousands of customers took out a policy on?

Care to elaborate anyone?

The same shoddy companies they have used for a couple decades or more. My neighbor just had his Kenmore washer repaired under extended warranty.

I remember working at the local Sears Service Center. MA's (maintenance agreements) were big business. Probably 12 people in a room, each at a desk, calling and pushing them.

I wisely purchased an extended warranty for my star-crossed 7 year Whirlpool french door fridge when I bought it new from Lowes.

The appliance has required so many repairs that the insurance underwriter has written it off and reimbursed me a pro-rated price on the contract.

It's since been relegated to chill non-perishable items in my garage, I don't trust it otherwise.
