the powder was on sale for Friday and Sat only....11.99 for the 180 use box.....its been a while since any of this has been on sale, so I got 2 boxes....

but my question is, the lady at the Appliance sales desk mentioned that it is made by P&G and the formula is similar to Tide.......

I don't think this is correct, or maybe now it is made by them....any ideas or thoughts?.......still the best value, and cheaper than Tide, although I think Tide is a super performer, that price tag I can do without....

I know, Thanks Lawrence, I almost started a debate with her, but I already had intelligence over machines on her, and I wanted to make sure, because I don't recall anywhere on here about it being made by P&G, unless something changed....

and just wanted to get my purchase and leave, I don't shop there like I used to....

That saleslady must have been related to the one who told my Mom, in 1968, that the Lady Kenmore she was buying would spin as fast as the Unimatic we were replacing....lol.

would spin as fast as the Unimatic

<span style="font-size: x-large;">A Kenmore WILL spin as fast as Unimatic!</span> <span style="font-size: small;">(The fine print to this statement: the spin will be as fast as long both machines are unplugged, then set to "Spin" or equivalent on timer, and left unplugged! Hmmm, maybe with my ability to make misleading statments that get corrected by fine print, I should get a position writing advertising, with small print disclaimers, for credit card companies!)</span>

I think this general point was mentioned on Super before

I was at Target a while ago, and checked Tide. As I thought I had remembered, at least some boxes now come with a line that says something to the effect that P&G doesn't make store brands.

DeSoto

The Sears Ultra Plus powder is made by DeSoto Chemical Co., Joliet, IL. Many, many years ago they were a division of Sears and made paint & wallpaper for them. DeSoto has made this detergent for Sears for many years, but the paint division was sold to Sherwin-Williams several years ago. The last I heard Sears paint is sourced from SWP.

As for P&G, they don't even make many of their own products anymore, but rather have them made by others on contract.

Which is why many P & G labels

Now say "Distributed by Procter and Gamble." A small, but telling change.

I now buy very few P & G products, particularly since they off-loaded Jif peanut butter to Smucker's.

Huish was a large private label manufacturer, possibly the largest. I believe the whole company is now called Sun Products and it is possible that the Huish name is no longer used. Last year at one point their old website was still up, as was the new Sun site.

Sun was created in 2008 when the brands from Unilever were purchased (Wisk, Surf, All, Snuggle, etc.) by Huish. Prior to this, Huish had been largely a private label company making store brand products for countless companies, and the Sun brand for themselves.

I am fairly sure that Sun does some of P&G's stuff - as some of their bottles are clones of Sun's bottles and caps. Private label products or manufacturing for out-sourced products is still a large market for Sun.

I finally went and bought some today. Scared me at first cause the price tags still said $23.99 but it is still $11.99. I can't wait to try it out!

The AD I had said it was a 2 day special...Fri and Sat only.......but I may go back if still on sale and get 2 more....stock up on a few while on sale, its been a while since these have been on sale....

Thank for the info guys!

who makes what?

Doesn't surprise me in the least that a Sears salesperson claimed soneone else made the detergent. Probably the same salesperson that told my parents last year that LG made all of their Kenmore top loaders(despite my dad's insistance that the 110. model# prefix on the floor model meant Whirlpool). Back to the detergent, I've been using this stuff for over 2 months now and really like it. Previously when I had used liquid tide, my clothes would still have a slight detergent smell to them when done. With this, they have a very slight smell when they come out of the washer and nothing by the time they are dry.

I got to use mine today! I'm quite happy with the results. Very low suds and everything came out clean. Even a few towels that were stained with coffee and Pepsi. I also did my kitchen towels and potholders. I haven't washed my potholders in way too long. And my goodness, the water was brown. I totally grossed myself out. Not all the stains they had came out simply from sitting in them too long, but they do look much brighter. And everything else that was in the washer with them didn't get stained from the dirty water they produced. And I was way shocked at the tiny scoop that was in the box! And how just one will wash a large load in a top loader. I'm glad I finally got to buy this detergent. I think I've found my new brand I'll be sticking with ;) thanks to everyone who has posted up their reviews about it!

I haven't tried the liquid, but I did try the pink box with fabric softener, which cleaned as good as the orange and green box, but didn't really soften the clothes any.

I'm hoping to finish of my box of Arm & Hammer powder during the next couple of weeks and then go back to the Sears UP.

it is funny, that Sears UP can do a pretty decent job of cleaning, for a very economical price.....

and yet P&G, with TIDE for example, will sell you the same basic thing for one huge profit....
