Having recently changed back from a FL to a TL Speed Queen, the washer of course has a metal lid. Not that I sat and watched mine like a TV, but I did like it when I walked by the FL that I could see the clothes going around in there. When I was a poor college student and had to use the laundromat in my teens, I used to make sure and pick out FL machines so that I could watch the clothes while I waited! Very Zen...

I know that some HE TL machines have clear lids now, and that in the distant past dealers used to have 'demo' lids. But, has anyone on here ever added a glass or plastic window to their regular washer lid? How how was it/would it be, to do? This isn't the same, of course, as trying to leave the lid open--I wouldn't want to do that.

For most of my automatic washers a see thru lid isn't necessary as I've disable all of the safety lid switches. I do keep some spare pieces of Plexiglas handy for the more splashy machines. As for dishwashers, that's another story. I've made two window door dishwashers and added interior lighting and plan on doing more in the future.

Robert, I would like to see you do a Lady Kenmore similar to the one you have, that has the impeller on the bottom and the rotating spray arm with the round top rack that rotates.

It isn't really that difficult in most cases to replace the lid on a washer with a plexiglas one. I have done that before on more than one machine. I have never attempted on a speed queen machine.

well for SQ, theres always the clothespin hack to view with the lid open.....for safety, you could always use a piece of Plexiglas, cut to size, to fit the opening...

trying to recall, who here did a thread, he has a Kelvinator I believe, that didn't have the glass lid, so he cut an opening and added a Plexiglas window, and trimmed it out...

I cut an opening in a door for one of my Neptunes, more of a demo window, I just haven't put the glass in it yet....

I just noticed your question Eugene, here is a link to the thread on how I did that...
