When Sunbeam first released the model 12, it was available in motor strengths, 135 watts and 150 watts. The price difference was $12.00. It was a goofy idea, as it made it hard for stores to stock and sell. It was dropped quickly. The 135 watt model 12 is much quieter than the 150 watt and still has respectable power.

Thanks for straightening that out. I always wondered why there was 2 different wattages. At first I thought only turquoise models were rated 135 because every one that I owned or saw on Ebay was 135 watts. Eventually I did see others 12's of different colors with that wattage. Even today, wattage seems to sell mixers to the general public, but does not always equal great performance!

135 vs. 150 watt

I have several model 12 Mixmasters and the quietest one has a 150 watt motor and a chrome finish. Most of these mixers fail due to improper lubrication. Interesting how there could be such variation in something so mass produced. I am glad to have found a chrome Model 12 that is so quiet and wasn't abused. Finding new old stock is great too!
