I have seen many threads here for decoding Maytag wringer washer serial numbers.
I have a Maytag with a S/N as follows: L197658P.
It has an aluminum agitator which I believe makes it 1949 or earlier.
It's in rough shape!
Notice the underside of the lid is not painted.
