Oh, Maaaaaaaaaaannnnn!

Oh, oh, OH, how I'd love to be in a position to snag that Servel. It's exactly the year and model I want, and it's in exceptional, exceptional condition. I have never seen one with the freezer door intact; they are always broken. This one appears to be pristine. Unfortunately, I've no room, and transport is even more of a problem with Servels than with most vintage reefers; they're ungodly heavy.

Ah well. At least, like the truth, it is Out There.

The tubing is much heavier, it runs at extreme pressure. It is also much larger diameter. I have a 1960s Dometic and it is a small fridge, about 1 metre high and 550mm wide so it is barely bigger than a bar fridge. I can't lift it.

Kenny:

I know there's supposed to be a way, but that thing is what - four or five hundred pounds? And I'm in a rented house for now, with only a cellar for storage. Plus, if it needs work, there is like one guy left who still works on them, and he's in Maine.

Just too many hurdles for me right now, and it's a shame, because that is a nice Servel. I really appreciate your pointing it out here, because I've saved the eBay photos; they're the best photos of one I've ever seen.

Sandy,

Can't RV shops handle them? It's the same principle as the little Electrolux units, except these were built to last forever and the Electrolux are designed to fail after a few years.

Servel/Dometic

I sell at least 10/month of tghese propane gas Servels for $1399+$199 del and inst. The new ones can run on gas and/ or electric and will automaticaly convert to AC if the gas runs out. However,if and when that occurs, the unit will need to be "burped" before reconnecting the gas line after a refill.I recomend that those who buy them invest in an extra tank that is set up to automaticaly take over once the other is empty.that way,the owner can refill the empty tank as the full one runs the unit. Once the refill is complete, you reconnect the tank and continue using the current one until it empties than repeat the process. The new ones are available her in the U.S. but are not that big in capacity (12 cu.ft.)and heavy.

Wow, I didn't realize they commanded that kind of dough! I guess $500 isn't so bad after all.
