Collected this wonderful machine today. Please can anyone put an age to it & possibly tell me what the maximum spin speed is ie 740 or 850rpm.

Servis Compact 303S

Hi Craig, well what a little beauty you have there, February 1979 is the introduction date of this model although it is somewhat of an puzzle as the S usually stood for Stainless Steel drum, I wonder if this is one of the first changeover models or they had run out of older fascias, very interesting.

The spin speed should be 850rpm for cottons and 460 for delicates, is the door release button on the rhs of the timer?, a very sturdy machine with all that cast iron and vitreous enamel...will check the carbon brushes book in the morning, still available so we look forward to seeing it in action!!

Cheers, Mike

SERVIS 303S

The motor on it looks so much like an early Hoover one it's huge. The weight/feel & the build quality of the enamel drum is just so unreal unlike any other drum i have ever come across. I'm well happy & excited about this classic machine.

Servis

Hi Craig, Ironic you posted this classic Servis Compact 34 year old machine as today 32 years ago the Servis Quartz was launched....

SERVIS 303S

Would have loved having you at work this afternoon Mike when we had a telephone call from a customer saying that they had a 30 year old Hotpoint Autowasher that needed to be replaced but it was only 22" wide. ( A 30 year old Hotpoint @ 22" wide) That journey to the customers house was mixed with me not getting my hopes up but with a tad of excitment, i could not believe my eyes when we walked into the utility room only to find a bloody rare classic compact Servis Autowasher. Put it this way they was far more care & attention made getting the old one out than installing the new Indesit one.

30yr old

Hi Craig, well my first reaction would have been purple Hotpoint toploader!!, you must have had a very nic surprise then...It looks a complete hybrid of a washer, the earlier MK72 model is different and the taller Slimline 308s is different on the back brace -

Have looked at the parts book and it looks like in the Qualtex list they are the long shaft brushes, CAR02, (DA2 / SA11) can you get spares through work?

As the motor is out do you have a local repair shop you can take it to?

SERVIS 303S

Mike i have ordered the brushes, basically they are the straight forward short Hoover electron/logic ones. Just got to wait painfully till they arrive on Tuesday.

Servis

Good luck with this machine these are little beauties, solidly built.

The electron brushes are shorter than the logic brushes they will both fit though

Have fun with it, small it is but it is a very serious bit of kit.

SERVIS 303S

I found a set of brushes at work today & i have put them in & done a few other little maintenance jobs to it. Well all i can say is what a machine, just sat & watched it go through a complete whites programme. It Completed the programme without one single problem & i'm loving the classic vintage sound of a true Servis & the powerful 95rpm distribution speed is just great to watch.

I bet you are Craig I think most of us on this group would be the same, there is something so honest and true about old mechanical machines, what you see is what you get, they get on with the job no faffing around.

I am glad it has been an easy trip for you.

Gary

Ohhhh Craig, Craig, CRAIG!!!!!!!!!

What an absolutely SUPERB find!
Am totally over the moon for you and I wish I was in your shoes, when you walked into that utility room!

What was the state of the kitchen and utility room? Modern or vintage? Suppose what I am trying to fathom out is, how such a great little bit of kit has survived for soooo long.

AND

you have managed to bag one in superb condition as well.

I had forgotten how solidly built these little beasties were, with drums that feel so heavy duty and thick and everything feeling so chunky and solid. With the cabinet being that much smaller, everything inside feels and looks that much bigger.

An aunt and uncle of mine had the Mk300 version - the one with the silver fascia. Having been painted purple to match the then kitchen, it was dispatched circa 1986 and it wasn't until I saw Mike's Mk72 that I laid eyes on a Servis Compact again.....

More photos, more photos, more photos Craig! Loads of photos, plllleeeaaaassssseeeee:-)

Your Mk303S is the first one that I have ever seen before and you can't have too much of a good thing!

I am with Mike on the 'S' usually referring to stainless steel inner tubs and its frustrating that no one has quite fathomed out how to date Servis machines.
I am of the opinion that Servis worked on a rough date guide based on production number batches, but as there is virtually no Servis Servicing information out there, we don't have anything to go off:-(

Ahhh well - what does age matter. All that matters is that you have got one.
Mike - you will have to nip up the M6 one day and take your Mk308S with you, to meet its little cousin!

The only colour photo of a Mk300 below.
Where are you Mk300's?
