Hi. I have recently aquired a Servis 2305 dryer. Has anyone got any info on this dryer and how old it might be?
The facia panel looks a bit like a Servis Quartz dryer but has a clockwork timer.
Inside the front multivent panel there is a flat lint filter but not sure how it is meant to fit in.
Thanks

It might be worth trying to push the filter cover in gently at top, middle and bottom, I suspect it might fasten like the push in to release flap you sometimes get on TVs that conceal the manual controls, or it might be hinged part way up or down the cover, requiring you to push down one end to make the other pop out.

If that doesn't work, maybe post a pic of the other side so we can see how the filter cover fits in relation to the side of the machine?

Dryer filter

I think you will find that the filter does not go straight in, It goes at an angle so that the end in first sits at the base of the housing then it slopes towards the top at the front you can then close the filter flap.

Thanks Austin - I can see that now - there are a couple of clips that hold it in... doesnt seem terribly effective though- lots of fluff coming through vent pipe. Anyone else have similar problem?

Chris,

My Mum had a servis dryer, an older model than yours with the small square door. It has the same filter arrangement and yes you are right , it is not effective at all. You have to regularly vacuum out the back of the machine where the different vent holes are.

Thanks Paul
Just had a look with the top and back off and it is a bit of a puzzling design of how it works unless it vents from the front. The air seems to come up into the back panel and then split into the rear vents and then the front vent channel which holds the lint filter.
Vaguely remember something similar from my parents Quartz dryer from the end of the 80s but nothing like the amount of fluff that gets blown out the pipe!

Hi Chris.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Very nice 'Multivent Plus' dryer!
I think its from end of the 'piano key' production run, probably around 1990.

I say from the end of the run, based on the different style of dial fitted to your machine.
I have attached a picture of mine and Rob's 3305 Electronic 1000, which shows the original style of dial...

Here is a photo of the venting arrangement of Mike's Quartz Multivent 2703.

Effectiveness id certainly dependent on no gaps and unfortunately this design doesnt lend itself to producing a good seal - hence lots of fluff passing the filter and going out the tube.

Still, they are a very nice dryer, from a very nice series of machines. Good purchase!

Hi Paul Thanks for that!
Do you have anymore pictures of the Quartz front panel? I am intrigued to see the different designs. I understand that some of the machines were digital and had all electronic control rather than a mechanical timer.
Thanks

Instructions

Hi Chris, good dryer you have there, low wattage heater and high airflow, as the guys have said the filter goes at an angle - this was about the only design aspect of the quartz models that was not perfect, If you are venting it from the front then the arrangement is as above - If you are venting it permanantly from the rear, what I did was to take of the top, remove the three way vent box, so bypassing the filter, get a vent shield (ebay / spares) and us it as on previous dryers on the back of the drum and then vent the pipe directly from the fan chamber - like previous models!!

Hi Mike
Thank you so much for those diagrams. I have taken the top and back off to have a look at the venting arrangement and couldnt believe how much lint had built up in there. i think I will take your advice about modifying the vent outlet...
Whilst I had the back off, I noticed that the belt was very frayed in four places - do you know if you can get spares for these or a compatible part? Just had a look through ebay parts and really not sure what to look for.

Thanks
chris

Hi Chris.

Piccies of the model 2700 Quartz Multivent, from around 1986.
This was the colour scheme that introduced the full door and piano key buttons.

Though this particular colour scheme was dropped, in favour of shades of brown, the bodystyle was long lasting and even the facia style continued to be sold alongside the replacement Sapphire series machines, into the early 1990s.
