My Classic Servis Compact Auto Washer has suddenly developed a leak at the front of the machine. I thought it was just the door seal but it's leaking from the bottom of the front of the outer tub. Mike i think it was you that told me that you can remove the complete outer shell of this Machine to gain better access. Any help would be most appreciated.

If memory serves me well

there is a rubber bung directly under the door aperture on the outside tub and more often than not its that causing the leak they tend to soften with age.

I hope its as simple as that for you and you can fix it without too much hassle..

Tonight i decided to remove the outer casing to find out exactly where the machine was leaking from. This was a far from easy task but still very enjoyable.

The seal has hardened & split in places so i'm thinking of applying a generous amount of silicone sealant to both sides of the original seal.

dried seals

Hello Craig

I had the exact same problem on a similar machine, I did what you are thinking of I used a silicon sealing compound all over the original seal, once it was all back together and clamped up no more leaks.

Good luck
such a great machine

Rust

Yes Gary

Whilst i am sorting out the seal how could i possibly not sort out the rust problems at the same time, for a machine manufactured in 1979 it's in great shape.

Now here's my Putting back together project for tomorrow night.

I suggest you do the tub seal with the tub on its back and leave it like that for a few hours for the silicone to set. This will mean gravity is helping you rather than working against you.

Thank you for your great advice Fido, but i managed to get it watertight without the need of putting it on it's back.

Here it is back in it's place working 100% perfectly again.

Could bloody kick myself. Absolutely livid, should have paid attention to this. So it's a total strip down yet again tomorrow.

Mike, a matching dryer would be just great.

Hi Craig.

Congratulations on the excellent rebuild and thanks for taking the photos to show us.

Very fond of the 303S and the other Servis compacts, having had a Mk72 and Model 300 in the family, during the 80s. Those cute proportions endeared these machines to my heart - was really pleased to be able to offer a home of a Model 200 dryer a month or two ago.

The memories came flooding back ....

But here is what you require, in the form of a second generation Model 203. Will keep my eyes peeled for you.

Paul
p.s more photos of the 303S - never can be enough of them! :-)
