I recently acquired a Supertwin 70, thanks Al, that needs a bit of work. Mechanically it seems to be ok except that the timer doesn't switch off and the body work needs a tidy up with the usual scrapes, lower body rust and loss of paint to the wash deck. My plan was to strip it down and start preparing for a repaint when the weather improves, probably sometime in spring now. In the meantime I thought I would take some time on the other bits and pieces. Nearly everything looks ok under the skin except for one point. The outer spin can looks like it may have been left with water in for a long time and has a bit of a rust problem. By the size of the lumps that have come off I suspect it may be beyond salvation. I'd be grateful if anyone has a spare outer spin can available that I can use as a replacement.
Thanks
Ian

outer spin can

Hi Ian another great machine. I think i may know where there is an outer spin can. When i did the MK11 a few years ago the outer can was worse than the one on your machine. I gave it a good sort out with a drill and scraper then repainted it with grey Hamerite paint. I also did a similar process on the EE twin tub we had the resent get together. See how you get on and let me know if you still need a new part. Keep us upto date with the progress. Regards Darren

Silly Question

I'm struggling to get the knob off the pump control rod, should it just pull off or am I missing something. I've tried pulling and tapping it gently, I've applied a little WD40 and have tried warming the knob with some hot water but it won't shift. All that's happened is the rusted remains of the piece of sprung steel that locates the shaft has fallen out. There is a fraction of movement between the black part of the knob and the grey collar below. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions.
Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian,

Unless there were minor changes made between the Mk70 and the Mk100 then the knobs should just pull off with a bit of wiggling - they did on my Mk100. Maybe someone stuck it on with super glue?

Good luck with the restoration!

Regards,

James

Thanks James, I suspected that it should just pull off, I'll have another go. The thought that it may have been glued on did pass through my mind, hopefully it hasn't been.
