You know, I find articles like this one fascinating.

Mostly because - who cares?

We are what we are. Straight, bi, gay, self acceptance is vital. Articles like this are simply trying to use 'science' to give people validity.

For any individual there are always others who will love, like, dislike, hate him. <Shrug>. In terms of particular groups (gay men, gay men, Jews, Muslims, Christians of various flavors) there are always counter groups that hate them.

Ultimately it is how we perceive ourselves and how we accept ourselves that matter.

For the record, I think studies like this are very, very, very suspect mostly because the statistical universe of people who are being studied is WAY too small. I think toggleswitch in post 406103-1/14/2010-16:09 above is absolutely right.

At about the sme time my mother forced me to out myself at 16 y.o. I remember praying (in all earnest) for G-d to take this "thing" away from.

I mean who WANTS a lifetime of (unjust) discrimination heartache, and hell? I've had employment discrimination, housing disrimination, have had parents disown me (more than once), had sibling give me hell, and left home at 19 y.o.

Yes this misery is "CHOSEN". HELLO!

But alas once one loves oneself and accepts onself there is nothing anyone can do to hurt me anymore. Ignorance is bliss. It comforts me to know so many in the world love their bliss.

I thank God for my orientation every day, and if someone came up with a pill to "cure" my homosexuality, I wouldn't go near it.

Being gay means having all the sex I want without worrying about pregnancy, or dealing with endless hoops that women make men jump through before they'll have relationships and/or sex with them, also tons of disposable income, no kids to raise unless I specifically want them, and on and on. If sexual orientation were a choice, which it is not, I honestly don't understand why anyone would choose to be a heterosexual.

That,sir, is what lures so many "smart" heteros to "the dark" side, at least recreationally.

You get what you want, when you want, without having to go through the whole mind f - - - games needed to get "that" out of the other gender.

They dont know any better (ducks and runs) or are afraid of the options.

STr8 men use the promise of love to get relations from women, and women use the promise of relations to get love.

Nothing beats having a hetero in your clutches and he coos "oh baby I love you" EWWWWWW, right after. Don't you dare treat me like a woman. That phrase is a DISINCENTIVE in that circumstance, and has less than zero credibility.

Toggles, I agree with all but that last part. My best friend from school was possibly the most hetero guy I've ever known, yet when the booze flowed (or back then, ludes), we got into some mind-blowing sex. He whispered those three words in my ear more than once, and his actions outside these sexual escapades proved he meant it. Yet he eventually wound up very happily married to a woman, had a family etc.

Some heteros are emotionally open enough to love people regardless of their plumbing. It's not many, just like not many gay men could open themselves up sexually to women.
