Hello,

I have a Sharp MM1110 netbook. It has a fault, it is that you have to hit the hard drive to get it to work. However, I have bought a new hard drive and put it in, yet it did the same thing! The hard drive goes Whirr,Click,Whirr,Click until you either press it, hold it or Windows BSOD's. Help!

Any advice seriously appreciated!

I have tried using the built in recovery tool which reinstalled Windows XP. That didn't work. It is hard to boot off of a cd because it is a netbook (no cd drive) and it doesn't seem to want to boot off a cd.

Reinstalling Windows without formatting is different from formatting the drive first. Did you have an option to format? Because of the nature of your problem I'm guessing it occurs before Windows even starts up. You might try getting into the computer's basic settings where startup options are and re-confirming the correct options - this is generally accessed by hitting a particular key when the computer boots, before Windows appears on the screen. Usually if you look very fast there will be a line of type on the black screen that says something like "press F8 (or whatever the key is for your computer) for startup options". You have to be quick and catch it before Windows starts up.
