Say ah!

She needs a maintenance kit and a new light bulb. Otherwise the outside is mint and the inside is a little worn... but not bad after nearly 50 years of use.

Will:

"....not bad after nearly 50 years of use."

You coulda gone all day without saying that, LOL!

Because I was at my grandmother's house the day the Sears truck rolled up with her brand-new Kenmore 800 pair - her first automatic washer and her first dryer.

It does not seem anything like 50 years ago, even if it is. P.S.: My Aunt Margie still has the dryer.

Kenmore 800 Electric Dryer

Will congratulations on your new Laundry Appliance and while a 1965 design it was made the 46th week of 1968 which is a good thing as WP built dryers were greatly improved in 1966 when they scraped the older design, so it likely went into service around early 1969. This should make a good everyday dryer, but it does require a lot of babysitting [ timed dry only ] as it does not have the electronic sensor that the better KM dryers had at this time.

Wow!

Yes, I now remember the little bottle of smell good stuff.  And yes, it smelled good.   Guess the idea didn't last long.

That dryer is really in great shape - the bottom is incredible.  Does the panel light up on this one?  Can't remember?

Best wishes for many "good smelling" dried loads.

thanks John!

Yes, It's a light up panel, but I need a new bulb. It has been requested that I not use the air freshener to preserve the smell. I haven't decided yet, but it is tempting.

KM Dryers with Bottled Air-Freshener

Came out in 1959 and were sued for about 10 years after 1959 on mid and upper line dryers, Sears also used the same odorant in some models of dehumidifiers and Jenn Air used it in their No-Vent down draft Electric Grill ranges that incorporated electrostatic air cleaners in the 1980s.

We had a similar dryer and the lint filter snapped into two pieces. Redneck repair in our house: two drilled holes and bread ties braided together, fished thru the holes and like magic! A handle that worked!
