Shipping a Washer

I'm think about buying a particular used washer.

It would have to travel about 250 miles to reach me, from Central IL to Central IA.

Who do you folks use to ship something like that? What's a reasonable cost?

What do you ask the seller to do to prep for shipment? Put on a skid, block the suspension, etc.

What do you ask the freight line to do, beside have liftgate delivery?

I could just go get it, but I'd have to rent/borrow a pickup or full size van, and I figure that would cost about $170 with rental and gas cost. Maybe that's just the way to go...

That's the only way to go if you don't want any added internal or external damages from others manhandling it.

For the price of the rental & gas and a day's driving, it's likely to be cheaper to go get it. Shipping starts at around $300 door-to-door but with some hunting, you may be able to "rideshare" something for less than that.

Definetly cheaper to go fetch it yourself, plus you know how it's being handled.
