Hi everyone, I have a good friend who gifted me her parents 1960's lady kenmores but have to bring them to orlando from Buffalo. Has anyone ever used those uhaul crates for this? I got a quote for $2600 to ship them here, seems kinda crazy high
any thoughts on how to get them here? or is it easier to just drive them myself here
have a great week, chris

Shipping or moving a pair of 1960 lady Ken mowers

Hi Chris, where are the pictures of these wonderful machines and very rare machines at that.

These machines are both very heavy. The washer is somewhat fragile. If somebody tries to move either machine by the control panel. It’ll just terret off the top

Can’t make the decision whether it’s better to drive or to have them shipped that’s something you’ll have to figure out.

What kind of condition are they in? What do you plan to do with them?

John

Both very nice machines

Nice machines for their time. I think they refer to that washer as a piano key machine because of all the cycle &option buttons to choose from.

One other thing to think about is what kind of operational condition are these units in. Are they currently running, need some minor repairs, or do they need to be gone over completely and rebuilt.

Good luck on which route you choose to take

I had a 1968/69 lady Kenmore pair

I guess I took 1960 to literally, and you did say 60s plural but the 1960 machines are very rare.

This 1968 pairs, one of my favorite pairs from the 60s I love the styling of them I have the same pair an avocado.

Do you have any idea how much use they had over their lifetime, it’s very likely that the washer needs a very heavy going over the dryer may not be too bad, but it also should be gone over if you want to use them regularly.

These 1968 machines are much more practical than a 1960 pair would be and you actually could use these as daily drivers if the washer is gone over thoroughly.

From
What she has told me they have not been uses in over 15 years. They have been in her garages stored away. I have a full parts machine as far as motor. Transmission etc. the dryer needs a belt she said. They stopped using it when the dryer belt broke and got new ones. I would love to make them my daily drivers. But have never took one apart to restore before. I’d gladly pay someone to come
To Orlando to help me restore them.

It all depends on several factors including what your time is worth.

Have had many appliances shipped to NY, some far away as CA. Much of it comes down to shipper and how well things are prepped/crated/packed before shipment.

If time isn't of essence throw an advert up on Uship and see what happens. First several bids will always be the highest, but a time goes along usually someone sensible pops up.

When placing advert on Uship or elsewhere specify exactly what wants doing and how you want it done. Otherwise you'll get low ball yahoos who won't do the best job.

Again if time isn't of essence what you might want to do is find a cheap flight down to Florida and do the wrapping/packing yourself in advance of any shipper collecting.

If you don't own a vehicle large enough to transport these machines could always fly down to Florida, then drive back. Again it comes down to what your time is worth along with associated costs.

At extreme end of things are services like TSI and Craters and Freighters. C&F is quite expensive, but they did ship an ironer from Florida to me several years ago. They collect items, crate then and either ship on their own trucks or via common carrier such as UPS.

You can always reach out to C&F and others to get quotes. You'll need dimensions and weight for both appliances along with origin and delivery zip code.
