Not sure if I am posting this in the correct thread... can anyone point me in the right direction to have a wringer crated and shipped to Maryland from Florida? I have never had anything like this shipped and have seen posts on here where you guys have had things crated and shipped. Any help greatly appreicated!

Hi Lyle, we just had some discussion of this in the Super forum... I have used uship, with all but one experience (with one of the uship shippers) very good. There are a couple of other companies that I have not used, but that others have used, including Craters & Freighters, Microship, and some others.

I use UShip... It works pretty good... You get Multiple bids from different shipping companies
There is also U-Crate.
They'll drop a box, erm, crate in your driveway, you open it, pack it and close it. Just call when ready and they'll come pick it up and send it on it's way.
There is an "I" bolts in each corner on the floor to use as a tie-down point. You can buy 4 pack of ratcheting tie-down straps from Lowes or Home Depot ($15) and strap it down. Once tied down (like an X across the wringer) it should be good for the trip.
I don't know how U-Crate's fees are compared to other companies, but I wanted to throw this out there too.

Just as a side note - it's best to remove the wringer completely from the machine by swinging it around 180 degrees from it's normal position, lift it out of the support and lay it down flat. It's axle is greasy, so be prepared to wrap it with some rags before you crate it up. There is (on Maytags and Whirlpools/Kenmores at least) a flat washer shaped spring ring that is on the inside the column where the wringer sits. If the wringer were NOT removed, and it bounces up and down due to vibration from travel, it'll break that spring and then the wringer won't work. To find a replacement for that spring is like looking for a needle in a haystack and a royal pain in the tookas to get to. Just a word of caution and to the wise.

Thanks Bendix... I contacted them via email and am waiting to hear back. I am hoping to Larry.. its a beautiful machine! I have been looking for one like this for a very long time. I have never done the shipping part so this is going to be interesting. Wish me luck

Had No Idea!!!
WOW!! I got an estimate from MicroShip today for between $550 to 600 to bring the wringer from Florida to Maryland! I was floored!! I know gas prices are high but I had no idea it would be that much!!
I would love to have this machine but I really can not justify that much for shipping! Any other ideas? Anyone in the Orlando area making a trip north?? I would be happy to meet someone close to Maryland. And even pay them for bringing it that far but come on ... $600!

Try UShip, you get bidding transport providers, often bidding against eachother to give a good deal. Like I said in my previous post, all but one of my UShip experiences has been great. www.uship.com

True, I agree with your points Launderess. Also check what insurance the providers (uship bidding provider, or any other provider) offer. What is covered, at what rate and deductible, and at what assumed valuation, can vary dramatically. I have had two stoves brought up from Florida, I think one cost about $400, the other less than $200. Both were brought up by small shippers with a pick up and a trailer, they were hauling a specific load and had extra room on their trailer and the less expensive one was already going to be heading right through my area. If you have some flexibility for pick up and drop off times, the price can vary pretty dramatically if you can then 'fill' extra space in a truck that will be making the trip anyway.

Each time I have had a machine shipped it has cost $400-$600 and it was worth it to know it was going to get here in one piece.Hey I am not Bill Gates either but guess what this is an expensive hobby.What you have to ask yourself is how much does this machine mean to you? Would you want to risk damage by going with an unknown carrier?I read of a guy on here who shipped a 1950s bendix(rare) combo in one of those crates and it arrived with a broken control panel.I paid $500 two years ago to get my rollermatic frigidaire from Florida and I am so glad I did because it ended up being better than the pictures.That nice launderess lady hit the nail on the head,pay to get it done right or you are rolling the dice.

I have used Uship quite a few times. I've had good luck. I's expect to pay 200-300 to ship that wringer. I am in the process of having a Kitchenaid washer that cost $40 shipped to me for $230.
Shipping isn't cheap. It costs certain amount just to get someone to deal with your item, then you add fuel cost.
They key to getting an appliance shipped safely is a seller that will pack smaller parts for you.

Time for me to chime in.
Thanks to a tip from Paul (turquoisedude), I have been working with a company called "Home Direct USA". The website is www.homedirectusa.com
I prefer to operate by phone. Their direct dial phone number is: (720) 535-4139. I have been working with a wonderfully helpful order taker named: Berton. If you decide to use this company, please ask for him, and tell him that Mike Haller from Peoria Illinois as a reference.
To date, I have placed four (4) orders with him to move Electric Sink/Dishwashers from around the country (Tonawanda, NY - Buffalo area; Pasadena, CA; Greenville, NC; Riverside, NJ), plus a fifth order to move the Hotpoint Portable from Merrill, MI ---- All to West Peoria. The cost has only been $287 to transport each machine. A local shipper picks up the unit, and wraps/prepares it to be moved to its destination. The load, then is handed off, and eventually arrives at a local shipper on the delivery end, who calls, and arranges a day and time for delivery. Two of the Electric Sinks have arrived, and two more are in transit (one to be delivered tomorrow - Thursday September 13th). The fourth is scheduled for the end of September.
I have a sixth shipment that has been quoted, but I have not committed the order as of yet, pending proper payments. This shipment will involve shipping 3 freestanding dishwashers from MD to Peoria, at a rate of $150 each.
So far, I have been thrilled with the care taken to wrap each sink/dw. AND, I could have never driven to Pasadena for $287!
These prices also include moving an appliance (or whatever) up or down two flights of stairs. Minimal insurance is included in the standard shipping price, or additional insurance can be purchased.
I highly recommend Home Direct USA!

And thank you Mike for this info... I will give them a call. I also would perfer to talk with a human instead of doing all the email stuff. A couple hundred is no big deal to get this wonderful machine... it was the 600 that I had a problem with.
