USPS rates have gone up, but this is absolutely ridiculous! I only live about 300 miles from Downey, Calif. and there is no GD way I would spend $103.05 for ECONOMY shipping of a freakin rotisserie oven!
Pray tell what would Expedited Shipping cost, $250.00! I think someone needs to check their postal scale for accuracy. Either that , or they are padding the shipping cost for extra profit.

Ebay offers good discounts on FedEx SmartPost service that can be dropped off at and shipped via the USPS.
I could probably ship that item cross country for around $40 depending on the weight.

Being as this may for those whom have not used eBay in a while there are several ways to list shipping charges.
Most common is simply for seller to give weight and dimensions of package to be used for shipping, and then choose a service or services (UPS, USPS, FedEx, all three, or whatever), and eBay's system will determine shipping rates based upon zip code of winning bidder/whoever looks at item.
In this instance shipping is going to be directly related to what size and weight seller gives for item. More frustrating is that all major shippers (FedEx, USPS, and UPS) now use variations of dimensional pricing.

We've all received shipments where one small and lightweight item was sent in box far too huge for purposes. Well DIM is meant to do away with such things, and or at least force shipper to pay for luxury of doing so.
Many eBay shippers however as we all know do not go out and purchase shipping supplies including boxes appropriate to what is being sent. But rather grab any box large enough they can find be it from garbage, recycling or whatever that is free.
Am willing to bet in this instance seller has listed this small appliance being shipped in a box that is far larger than required. More to the point weight is now out of proportion to size of box triggering DIM prices.
Some sellers will state that upon winning bid and they've packed the item will send an invoice reflecting true and correct shipping charges. EBay's feedback (IIRC) has long taken into account shipping rates charged in relation to actual. That is you've paid $25 USD for shipping but box arrives showing only $12 was actually paid. You can now grade a seller on this discrepancy.
My guess is seller is either going to place original GE box in something larger. Or, simply attempt to tape/seal the heck out of the original shipping box and send it that way.

That GE R-O box is in bad shape - no amount of tape is going to make it fit for shipping. I'd get a new carton a couple inches larger in each direction, and pack it properly in that. I'd then place that carton inside another slightly larger one, with padding on all sides.

You should see what I've seen upon delivery.
Sellers can (and have) simply placed a cut out portion of another box over damage bits, then tape the entire mess together. That and or use bits of cardboard to shore up damaged parts, then tape.....
As have said for many years; some eBay sellers go the extra mile when it comes to shipping. Others grab any old box out of rubbish and pack items with a bit of yesterday's newspaper and call it a day.

I've bought two GE fans on eBay that were in the original boxes. One seller covered the box with pieces of cardboard and put foam padding between them. It protected the box OK. This was a cube shaped 16x16x16 box so putting inside a larger box would have resulted in a huge parcel.
The other time, the box was smaller and flatter. Here the seller wrapped it in bubble wrap and another box.
I do have some items that I'd like to offer on here, but shipping really is a pain to find a box and packing materials, especially if these are not things you need often.
Some eBay sellers do a flat rate shipping, or used to just say the shipping price will be $X, then refund if it was over that much by a certain amount.

Each day tens of Amazon or other shipping boxes are put in recycling bins for our building. When need arises will go down and find one that fits my purpose. Shame to simply throw away a perfectly good shipping crate instead of reusing.

Fully agree on that. Whenever I order something on eBay I'm a little hesitant to recycle or throw out the packing materials. Peanuts and bubble wrap aren't cheap either. Boxes can be broken down and reassembled later. But I don't like clutter.
I can see how in an apt building, would be a better supply!

Even when walking about don't see piles of clear plastic bags full of either put out for rubbish nowadays.
Only bother with reusing Amazon, Chewy or whatever boxes is covering all the barcodes. That and one cannot use a UPS store shipping box to send things via USPS or FedEx, and vice versa. Well aren't supposed to anyway. All carriers have come to some sort of agreement where they won't do so to prevent people loading up on "free" supplies but not using correct service.
That being said have meant to send something FedEx but things happened and gave it to UPS. Packages arrived so that's me for you.
OTOH our local USPS office is another matter. Sometime they will take things, others not. Am told even if local office does accept the sorting center can decide to send it back.
