Shopping for new washer & dryer

MIL hates her maytag centenial. Makes too much noise during agitation. Have had service out to look at it and they said this is what this machine does. I have watched several u-tube videos and they all make this noise. So I have been doing research this week for a new set of machines for her. I have looked at private shops, not happy with what I found. Checked Sears, same thing. Pretty good sales because of Memorial Day weekend here. Checked Lowes and behold they have a top loader Hotpoint that is not enegy efficient!! Complete fills for rinses. Supposedly no mixing of hot and cold for hot water. Full temps. Going to go look at them today and probably purchase them. 1st units that I have found like this.
Will let you know how I make out and what I find.

Hydrowave?

Unless it is a Hydrowave drive, it will have the same short stroke knocking noise as the Maytags...

The one Hotpoint listed on their website does appear to be a hydrowave based. I don't think GE is making any transmission models anymore, even in BOL machines.

Jon/Retroman Look at the Fisher & paykel When my mothers maytag 1806 rusted through this what i got her for a good top load.  Great quite and spins at 1100 so clothes dry fast.

Hey Jon,  Did you check Fletcher's up on Amhearst Street?  They used to be pretty good.  Another option might be to check CL for an old Maytag Neptune that has had all of the updates done to it (especially the PHA motor upgrade).  These machines when all updated can be bought for cheap money and they are pretty robust, quiet and efficient.

Well they got delivered early last week and she loves them. The washer is so quiet that she gets up to feel that it is running. No water adjustment. All hot for fills and full rinses if you use the fabric softener setting. The dryer is great and strong and has no problem with the length of the run. Only need to run cycle once to dry the clothes. She is very happy with the purchase, which makes my life easier. I inherited the maytag centential with the center post agitator, which is in the salon now. Works great also but a little loud on agitation but since it is in the kitchen doesn't matter. I am baffled by the centenial lid switch. Is this one of those that you take a magnet to the side or the top to get it to wash while the lid is open?
