I am replacing the basket drive ( so far - we'll know if it needs more when I extract the drive from the center post ! ) and have located an FSP 383930 for the job. This basket drive, from what I can determine is called the "standard spring" version. Will that be adequate for my machine ? I had replaced the basket drive 10 years ago with a 'generic' version ( 383931(N) and even with that I had trouble with the springs not being up to the task of bringing the laundry basket + wet clothes up to speed ( i.e. - not fully engaging the clutch ) - I replaced these springs with a heavier, silver version ( as recommended by an older fellow who had done a lot of WP BD rebuilds in his day ). I notice on some websites that the short tube basket drive can have "RED" springs installed ( p/n 354276 ) as per the original. I seem to recall the original ( factory ) basket drive had red springs, as I removed them, and still have them in my box of washing machine 'spare' parts.
Can anyone help me with this question on basket drives and springs ? Thanks, gord H.
