I was looking at side by side refrigerators at Sears a while back for fun and noticed that it seems most of them have a huge black panel where the controls for ice/water/temp are. I thought this looked really weird on a white fridge.

Another thing I've noticed is the drainage area for the ice/water dispenser. It seems most recent models have a simple tray with grooves to catch water. All of the ones I've seen appear to get mildew on them, and I've heard if the area underneath isn't dried often that the door can rust.

Didn't older fridges have a grille and trough to catch water, or am I remembering wrong.

side by side refrigerators

Yes they had, look at bottom of the GE Americana and you will find the mesh tray and actually the pan underneath to hold the excess water, you can remove the tray, but reservoir pan isn't move able!

the black frame

Of course,I like that black frame very much,it's the style of 90's side by side refrigerators
Just like woody design in dispenser's frame or handles in 70's and 80's generations.
