Dear all,

Our Siemens dishwasher has started about a month ago to make very load grinding noises, but it still kept on cleaning good as usual, fast forward a month on and it came to a grinding halt.

It is in for repairs as we speak, and now the question, do I let it be fixed, as I suspect it is the pump that is broken or do I buy a new dishwasher, the machine is now about 12/13 years old and I suppose there will be other things that will start acting up as well.

Many thanks in advance

Get a new one because

the average life of a modern DW is about 7 to 11 years now. The control board can go next, which is costly if it is original, and also the drain pump. However, to each their own. My sisters Bosch Assentia which was a $400 US machine fried the wash pump motor after only 3 years. She went back to Whirlpool. When my Dad was still living, the diswhasher was his daily toy, and he ran it on the hottest longest cycle once per day, wether it was a full load or not. he told us he paid for it, and can do as he pleases, of course.

DW Fix or Not

Get an estimate, compare to cost of new DW, get the opinion of the person fixing your DW, then make a decision.

I can not give you good advice without know what is even wrong, is it the main pump or just the little drain pump that is bad.

Bosch-Siemens DWs are prone to getting crap caught in the main pump impeller like broken glass, often all that has to be done is remove the foreign object.

Well I received an estimate from the repair shop and its not economically viable to repair the machine as it is the main pump that has gone belly up. So we are looking for a new machine, and we have decided on a Siemens again as the previous machine never gave us any problems whatsover. I will keep you posted when we receive the machine.

Regards.
