My roommate's mother has a set of silicone bakeware that she has never used. She was asking me if you still need to spray them with Pam, I told her I wasn't really sure. I'm guessing that you don't need to spray them.

To spray or not to spray? Once we get moved she said I can bake to my hearts content with them.

Ick. I just don't trust the stuff. I feel like it is going to seep into whatever is cooked in it, and in 6 months you'll be diagnosed with some horrible disease.

It is my understanding that you do have to spray them. Jetcone posted a thread a while back about the silicone egg poaching cups. I finally got a couple and he was so right. They are fantastic. The directions say to spray them first add the egg and set it in a pan with boiling water. Reduce to simmer and cover. Cook for 4 min. One of the best poached eggs I have ever had.

I don't have any of the bakeware since I have more than enough regular bakeware but I do have the silicon spatulas etc and they are much nicer than plastic/nylon because things like egg don't stick to them as well.
Especially egg..doesn't get cooked on in the dishwasher like regular plastic utensils.
Even better you can get them at most dollar stores for a buck.

I rub

them with either butter or olive oil here in Europe, spray them with PAM in the 'States, except when I'm making a soufflé or angel food cake, obviously.

Food grade silicone bake-ware is safe. If each piece does not have the CE label on it or the American NSF, I would not trust it.
