Silicone on Maytag boot seal?

I'm a newbie as far as posting, although I have enjoyed the site and all the great repair information. I'm in the middle of installing new tub bearings and seals on a Maytag SE1000. I noticed the thread (copied below), which mentioned using a bead of silicone sealant on the bottom of the boot seal as further protection for the outer tub. I'm thinking of something like DOW corning 737 neutral cure sealant. I'm interested in what some of the repair veterans think. Thanks.

I use this for all these kinds of small sealing jobs. A schmear of it on the bottom of that Maytag boot is a perfect example, and a good precaution.
