Simplicity Supertwin !

Hello everyone.

It's been a while since I've posted something new on this website, so here it is...

I've just found a vintage SIMPLICITY 'SUPERTWIN' for 50 bucks on Kijiji! Yeah!!

(Yep, another twinnie for my TT collection...!!) ; ]

Simplicity Supertwin Model ST6 (standard white)

Superficially, looks quite a lot like the 'Speed Queen' twin tub of the 1970s.

It has Porcelain enamel wash tub.

2-speed wash cycle: Up to 15 min ''Gentle'' and ''Brisk''.

There is a sort of lint filter which rests on top of the agitator it can be easily removed for cleaning.

Unit comes with flexible filler hose, plastic tongs and a rubber spin mat.

Manufactured in Canada by McGraw-Edison of Canada Ltd. (Year = Mid-1970's ?)

Works fine. MUCH LESS noisy and less prone to vibration than the Hoover TT.

To sum up: An impressive little machine which plays in the major leagues. A small twin tub which embodies many of the qualities of some of the full-size automatics

Will use it as my 'principal' laundry day washing machine---starting from NOW!! : )

Anybody knows more about the ST6 model ??

Fantastic find!

Great that you got the accessories (tongs, spin-mat, and fill hose) with it as well! Yes, those are wonderful little machines! I have two of them - one branded as "Simplicity" in avocado (courtesy of Eddy!) and the other is a "Speed Queen" in harvest gold. I, too, got the harvest gold one on Craigslist for $50.00, although I gave him $60.00 because it came with the bonus of a hard counter-top cover.

The Speed Queen is a single speed, whereas the Simplicity is 2-speed, like yours. Unfortunately, recently the Speed Queen has developed a leak from the spin basket - I suspicion that is is the rubber boot that must have a crack or tear. Since I'm finished working on my wringer washers, it's the next in line for a restoration.

These machines were extemely well built and with proper care, lasted for decades (as ours attest!) Getting parts now, however, presents a huge challenge.

i remember when you had a chance to buy on before but i think the seller sold it to someone else (too bad). but now you finally got one, WOOOO HOOOO!!!!

i bet you're going to have all kinds of fun with that simplicity.
if i were to ever go the "twin tub" route, it would have to be one of these twin tub washers with the agitating washer action. no more impellers/pulsators washing action for me!!!

aw man, congratulations again unclejohn!!! wish i was closer to you, so i could come over and wash a couple loads to play with the simplicity too!!!

As simple as this ...

Thanks to both of you, hippiedoll (Christina) and barcoboy (Todd)!

One of my friends came by this week and after he saw my latest acquisition he exclaimed : ''Gorgeous look. I think this is the most beautiful washing machine I have seen...''

One anecdote: Soon after I bought the Simp Suprtw, I phoned the seller to tell my appreciation and he told me that, initially, he has hesitated quite a lot before taking the decision to ''let her go''. I bet he will probably regret his little Simp to some extent. Truth to tell, I still regret my Hoover 0632 Rinse-O-Matic (what was I thinking?)... You were so damn right, barcoboy, I should have kept that baby preciously. Alas, too late!!

However, when I look at the treasure I now have (the belle Simplicity), I think it compensates quite a lot for the lost of the Hoover R-O-M and also for a real Speed Queen twin tub about which I missed my chance completely a few years ago (that one was put out on the sidewalk as a giveaway take-it-or-leave-it, sort of 'we have to get rid of it').

BTW, Brad, I like your vids of the Speed Queen TT which resembles a lot to the Simp
