Simpson 13-075

A long time ago I posted about this fantastic very early 70's Simpson I found. A month or so ago I took it up to my parents place to put in their garage. My Dad attached a new cord to it and the timer ticks away. However I took the back panel off to have a look and (as always) the motor had been removed. It is also a bit rusty but not too badly ( i dont think.)

So maybe our Aussie restorers might be able to tell me about how to go about fixing it. I guess it needs new motor, pump and belts. Does a later Simpson motor work in its place? Or considering its similarity to Maytag, would a Maytag motor work?

And this is the gearbox. What condition does it appear to be in? This is my first classic washing machine and a real beauty so all the help I get will be appreciated. Then I can tackle the Rockerswitch Simpson! (see other post).

The motors for these machines "pivot". I actually have a spare one i pulled from a similar machine. The gearbox pic isn't that clear, but if its not leaking too much oil, it should be fine, i would be trying to take the agitator out to see if the seals are ok and that its not leaking any oil into the tub, otherwise, you'll need to replace the gearbox itself: the parts for these gearboxes are NLA.

Some rust converter should tidy up the base nicely. I think a motor from any similar Simpson from the era "should" work, but a later Maytag motor won't.

If you were prepared to pay for the freight from Bris, I could send you the motor i have? Just a thought.
