Simpson 83 in SYDNEY

In Sydney too! Would you believe? I am so tempted to bid on this machine, even though I am lacking in room. Obviously the machine, being hooked up, must be in working order because my other little jems I found on the side of the road had their motors removed.

It does have a bid on it though and wonder if it is anyone on this site.

This one is the 2nd generation of the perforated tub machines.

The first generation was based on Maytag mechanicals, this one however changed to a Borg Warner "flying saucer" shaped gearbox and slightly larger tub (wider but not much deeper). If I am wrong I am sure one of our expert friends will put us on the right track.

Ash is correct.....to a certain extent. All NON Fluid Drive Simpson's had the 'flying saucer' Borg Warner gearbox, but the '80 Series' were the first to have the deeper tub and different suspension system.

Two Fluid Drive models were sold alongside the 80 Series Simpson's until about May 1975.
