Greetings to all.

I have long been aware that in the late 70's Simpson imported a front loading washer but I had never seen one in person or in picture. But thanks to Google newspaper archive I found one!

Click on the link to see it.

I looked at all the photocopied UK Which magazine reports on washing machines that I had to see if anything looked similar, the only machine that came close was a Philips 303 which also had a top mounted dispenser and two knobs on opposing sides of the front control panel.

Maybe one of our European friends might find it familiar, also have any of our Aussie friends come accross on in their travels?

It would be awesome to find one.

WOW!

Great detective work there.....

I seem to remember the user guide to my mothers Fludi Drive (which I can't find) had an American style front load machine on the cover/inside....I'm certain it wasn't a dryer, as these seem to have had solid doors....

Bosch, I think ...

I agree with Brisnat. The control panel is very much like the dishwashers of that period, which were made in Germany. They were fantastic! (Bias here: I had one and loved it to pieces). That picture also shows my first tumble drier, bought at a reduced price at a warehouse sale as it had been scratched. Ran beautifully for years and years ...

Bosch

Look at this, starting at 6.22 into the video.

What a great video.

I think you are right Louis, I searched this site for Bosch washers and came across this in the link below, which looks very similar and the machine in your video looks exact.

Its a great video and makes me wish to find one of these Simpsons more than ever!

That would be one of the rarest machines sold in this country I would have thought given that front loaders up until about 2000 used to command only 10% of our market and Hoover was the dominant force from the 1960's until 2000....

Westinghouse front loader

Hi guys,
Yes Ash. you are correct there was indeed a Westinghouse front loader around in the late 1970's possibly even very early 1980's,you see I remember seeing it on the showroom floor at Grace Bros when my mother was looking to buy a new machine, I am really stretching my memory here but I think the control panel was brown in colour and I think there was only one large control knob on it, but I could be wrong.
Hope you have luck in finding one of those Simpson front loaders in your pic.
Cheers.
Steve.
