Sorry, but I don't know which forum to put this in so I followed the leads for "wash-ins".

 

Just discovered this wonderful website, kbculture.com, that focuses on all things kitchen and bath. She has a little article on AW.org in there as well. Here's a shot of Elton John's laundry service, rock-n-roll-laundry, which goes on tour with him to keep all of his costumes clean

Where does he find the places to hook them up at?

Usually in the contract for performance there is a list of things that must be supplied to "the artist". Some of the requests are bizzare, some are almost so simple it's unbelievable.

A lot of times you will see a request for laundry service with strict turn around times. So I imagine that Sir Elton's contract would call for hookups for six washing machines and dryers?

I would guess from the grill on the front that those are air-cooled condensing dryers.

Little Giants for the win, apparently. How cool is that? I've always wondered how stars keep their stage clothes clean - did they have 20x of everything, some poor fellow staying behind waiting impatiently at the dry cleaners, etc. This makes perfect sense.

The original Deepfreeze

Decades ago, the Library's telephone reference center received a call from an artist's wife. He was doing an ad for the American Dairy Assn. and needed a picture of "an old round freezer with the Art Deco look." The artist was not talking about an ice cream freezer. No one knew what the wife was talking about but, because it was an appliance-related question, it got referred or should I say "reefered" (in the refrigeration sense) to me. I knew where the ads were in old Better Homes & Gardens in the stacks, found the picture and faxed a copy to the artist.

It was also available in a single tub design. Although it is not readily visible in this picture, the bridge between the tubs had louvers for the compressor and condenser coils. That was the look about the original Deepfreeze that he was wanting. What a cool blast from the past. Thanks, Ken!

She's wrong!

She says that the Frigidaire Pull 'n Clean oven was the state of the art in 1965, but GE had already introduced the P*7 self cleaning oven by then.

These are vented dryers. The condenser ones don't have the glass door. Behind the "grill" is a large lint filter.
