After 2 1/2 years my roomate moved out today, and finally its just me & Jack here.

This room used to be my office, that was 2 years and 2 roomates ago.
No more roomates!
Any suggestions on what to do? I don't know that I need an office so much, but it would be nice, also need guest space, and before company had to sleep on the couch.
First up is paint and carpeting.
I am open to all suggestions!

idea

Set up a bed and nightstand for overnight guests, skip the dresser or chest of drawers, and in its place, put your computer in there, too.

That way, you don't have to have your computer cluttering up a main room, and you'll still get some daily use out of the extra bedroom.

Or just decorate it as a bedroom. Just because you already have a bedroom, it doesn't mean you can't still use the extra one too. Once in a while, I sleep in my guest bedroom for a week or two, just for a change of scenery. For example, if your main bed is a softer pillowtop mattress, but you also like to sleep on a really firm mattress, then buy the latter for the extra bedroom, and then you can switch between the two beds as you feel like it.

Your joking right?

Your a member of this group and you flout a question like that?

It should be obvious. Hmmm, the room is 10 x 12, how many washers could fit in there? Or even more smaller appliances with the use of special shelving.

But your right. Paint first. :o)

oooh I'm coming to visit!

How about.......

Think Murphy bed, flocked by a TV armoire on one side and a bookshelf /closet /chifforobe or computer desk on other. With a small couch or love-seat across from it, you have a guest room, den TV space.

and a roll-up out-of-the-way bed!

An area rug to define the space and some "poofey" curtains~~ et voila c'est fait!

P.S. Don't forget to air-out the room well, give the floors aand windows a good washing and burn a candle and some incense to be rid of any negativity!

HAVE FUN!

Might I suggest a marquetre bombe sideboard????

(ducks and runs)....

Seriously, maybe you could paint the ceilings and trim stark white, paint the walls a nice deep gold, warm sage, or even rich copper color, recarpet in charcoal gray for serviceability and versatility, and then let the furnishings (or appliances!) add contrast and personality with their brighter, more vivid colors?

Just my .02 cents....

Now there's an idea Jeff! Aside from the paint, I like the idea of a combo room, where you could have a desk and computer (office type thing) and a bed, daybed or something to give you the guest space you'd like to have and your guests would enjoy.

I was thinking a big red and white Hoover logo mural on the wall...maybe a base coat of neptune green??? Just an idea....

Go to the "Hettie-Bob" load thread in Deluxe and see the picture partcounterman has put up.

See that warm green color?

THAT'S an example of a happening color that other colors really look nice against (IMHO)...

Solid, substantial, and with a white ceiling and adjustable spot lighting, a showpiece that can be accomplished simply and inexpensively...

In my experience, best to leave the window treatment for last.

So many cool suggestions...

I especially like the big red Hoover logo, and those who have already been here know my kitchen is painted Neptune Green(after the model 69 Convertible)

I'm thinking tonight I will use some colors from the 1969 Hoover line: Marine Blue, Spring Green, and Seal griege light and medium. I'll hit home depot and Ace Hardware on my way home from the gym tomorrow morning.
Ceiling will be painted white.
Thinking maybe an off white/toasty color friezee or plush carpeting. I'm goning to do my bedroom too, which is HUGE(15 X 17) and then the house will have been completely re-carpeted.

Two things are not an option: wood floors or berber... I HATE that stuff!!

how about model 1060 cafe au lait-colored walls with a model 61's bag sateen upholstered square-cushioned couch with neptune or spring green carpeting or curtains or couch pillows.

With all of Hoover's colors over the years, you could have a pretty decent color card with them.

Even the new names would work: "Telios Red", "Duros Blue", and "Constellation White"....

I agree with the Hoover theme; seal griege would look nice, or you could cover the walls entirely with the 728 or 707 bag pattern...;-)

As for suggestions on what to turn it into, you could always make it another vacuum room and have room for more appliances in your basement as well!

Louis, you are the voice of reason!!!

I'm also going to do my room as well.
Here's my bedspread, I think marine blue and seal griege would go pretty well with that...

Yeah I'd just finished making the bed and Mr Jack hopped up to make it all comfy for him...
