So What Is Everyone Cooking/Baking/Doing For Thanksgiving?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

With my wife's uncle passing in July we're changing things up a little bit. Instead of turkey this year it's my wife's famous ham & scalloped potatoes, baked corn, and all the usual Thanksgiving trimmings.

Uncle Edmund didn't like scalloped potatoes, so we had turkey to make him happy.

well, since you asked:
Thanksgiving will be at home, and I will be serving:

Champagne basted turkey
halupki
egg bread dressing
mashed potatoes
hashbrown potato casserole
green bean casserole
maple glazed carrots
corn
broccoli rice casserole
mandarin orange salad
home made dinner rolls
apple pie
pumpkin pie(if someone brings one, I refuse to handle pumpkin)

also for starters I'll have assorted olives and pickles, warm cheese dip, and cucumber canapes, and holiday punch.

My sister is hosting this year. I was asked to bring two of my pecan pies. I also have to bake four additional pies this week for employees and friends, total of six pies to be baked on Tuesday and Wednesday. Last night I performed Step One: roasting the pecans and finely chopping (thank you, Kitchen Aid food processor) some of them, to be added to the batter.

Thanks to the convection feature of my range, I can bake four pies at once and they all come out evenly baked. The rate-limiting step is making/forming the pie crusts. Once those are done, they pre-pake in 25 minutes while I make the filling for four pies: just quadruple the recipe and throw it all in the Kitchen Aid mixer. Once filled, the pies need another 30 minutes of baking and they're done. I usually can produce four of them in about one and a half hours.

This huge, gentle giant,Jeromie, who is 7'8" and very light skinned, blonde shaved hair man who can lift 2 25gallon,filled to the rim propane gas tanks. One in each arm. Came to inform me that he and his wife would be happy to have me over for Thanksgiving and my birthday.I said I would make some pumpkin pies,Parker House rolls and stuffing but she said "no need just bring your but over here and have a great time."I excepted the offer and will be going there Wednesday to spend the night so we can get an early start.

prime rib

Wifey can't eat fowl, so we're having prime rib.

Don't know what else yet but probably several veg including acorn squash, green beans (though not 'almondine'), salad.

For desert, peach pandowdy.

One smoked turkey and one fried turkey plus trimmings.

I kinda started early this weekend and made myself a 3 1/2 lb. ribeye roast with mashed potatoes, gravy, and Yorkshire pudding.

IF they make it, I've got houseguests arriving tonight in the unusual cold, snowy Washington weather. 10 for dinner tomorrow night of Ciopinno, salad, bread, blackberry cobbler. Wednesday we've got even more-18 for soup, salad and popovers. Thursday is small-10 with all the trimings. Friday we've got 10, menu to be determined. Saturday out! Sunday leftovers, Monday TBD. My new convection oven is going to be tested! Just get the snow out of here! Greg

I'm doing absolutely nothing.

I had considered making a Tofurky Roast, just for novelty & to try it. But the store was sold out the other day. Maybe it's just as well.

Someone suggested a couple of years ago that I could go out to a restaurant. But I never go to restaurants, and--besides--I think there are holidays when non-essential business should shut down in respect for the holiday. Thanksgiving is one such holiday.

Zeppole - Make Your Own Dough or Ready Made

Well after getting Thanksgiving out of the way will turn to thinking about Christmas baking.

Have alwyas love zeppole (those wonderful Italian fried pasteries), and am considering whipping up a batch or two.

It seems every Italian home has their own way, and there are more recipes than grains of sand on a beach. So am asking for tips/suggestions.

Does anyone simply purchase the ready made dough from the supermarket? It seems a simple enough pate a chox (puff pastry) dough, though others seem to be more of a chewy doughnut variety. The frying part seems no problem! *LOL*

I'll be whipping up my infamous Black Russian Cake. I'll have to share the recipe with you guys and gals, I think you'd like it, it has booze in it! LOL
