Well, after my trip to Jersey last week, which was a bit of a wash-out, my visit the Hans Hansen Sr. and Hans Hansen Jr. was a trip to vintage Candyland! That place is a museum of appliances and run by very nice people. The son, who is in college, was largely responsible through computer and internet skills in showing Hans Sr. that we were out there in force. He's very interested in what we collect, wants to know more and they may be a great source of vintage materials. It's a very large warehouse with 6 separate spaces for working, selling recent reconditioned appliances, vintage stuff, gas stoves, vintage refrigerators, and parts. My pictures stink, because my camera is dying but you'll get the idea

Mr. Hansen told me that he bought out the stock of an old-timer GE dealer who was from North Carolina. Apparently, another load of this stuff is coming up this April if the guy in NC is still alive:

I was very tempted to make a pig out of myself and clean him out of the all his NOS GE parts stock, but I thought I would leave stuff for those of you who are making the haj. I must admit, though, I went a little crazy when I saw all those plastic timer dials. I spent a good hour combing through 2 large storage bins of GE parts. Didn't have time to even look at the bins of Maytag, GM Frigidaire and KitchenAid parts. Happy hunting!

The Whirlpool that everyone is interested in is unique. It's that old "Sable" color that I've only seen in a brochure, sort of a cross between notorious Almond and Putty. Wanted that machine like crazy but am too low on funds to start lusting after a brand I've yet to collect. The machine I wanted is this ultra-BOL GE, but he wanted to see what the interest was going to be. So BOL, no Filter-Flo even:

There is an amazing collection of vintage refrigerators including those GE's with the pull-out bottom freezer under the counter and then a French door fridge on top. A beautiful Whirlpool Saphire Top-mount freezer-refrigerator in the aisles and in the same room 3 top-load portable dishwashers, a GE and Hotpoint of similar vintage, and an old bakelite-impeller Montgomery Wards I've never seen before. Plan to spend a lot of time there; there's a lot to see:

Thank you for sharing

WOW Ken! In the second picture I spy an Activator collar in turquoise. The little nubs wore off those and then the metal filter pans did not anchor. When the water flowed into them, they would tip back toward the filter flume.

Kenmore called that color Doeskin and I thought it was much nicer than almond or those two absolutely ugly colors, Platinum and Toast. Never was a color more aptly named than Toast.

I have some service material for Hotpoint dishwashers. They marketed, in the 60s, their own machines and GE-made machines as portables. The Hotpoint machines had a Pots & Pans cycle that was just a regular cycle with no dry. The GE-made machine had a Pots & Pans cycle that extended the wash into the first after rinse to give a longer washing period.

You guys better move fast

Very nice Ken, great haul!!!

OK I'll leave this thread and the other thread in As the Tub Turns for just a bit more (a week or so) so other donating members can make the trip as well first before its announced to the general public.

Empire State

Pete, this is the appliance warehouse, called Independent Service, talked about in Thread #30062, it's in Glens Falls NY, a village called Queensbury. Glens Falls is, I think, the first big falls of the Hudson river up from Albany. it's the beginning of the Adirondacks and a beautiful region, my Uncle Fred and his family lived in Saranac Lake back in the days when hospitals for tuberculosis were still up there for the rich and famous. The shop is about 50 minutes, driving with a lead foot, from Albany.

The place in North Carolina is not known. I don't think the Hansens want to share that information so I decided not to ask. Mr. Hansen is a member of a Service Association and it may be one of his old contacts. The guy is passionate about restoring old refrigerators but is amused that there's a group of us who are interested in washers and dryers. I imagine he has a lot of such contacts and am hopeful that he will be able to pull in more vintage stuff if he sees it can be profitable for him. He used to be a Maytag dealer, along with his father, until the Maytags sold the company and left them with dreck.

I'm trying to figure out a way to locate and contact any and all old-timer GE dealers in this area. Not unusual to see someone's college age kid opening the door of the internet to the previous generation. Hope this is a beginning of a trend.

Happy hunting!

No big surprise, but after an entire day of driving I can barely move today. It's hard for me to sit still but I'm really zonked. I've always wanted to drive across country, but after 6 hours my legs and glutes start of ache.

If you have an idea!!!

Where in NC this came from I could investigate,Im about the middle of the state, all im interested in is small appliances and ranges,I dont fool with washers all that much, and dont have room for big stuff,I would be glad to help anyone if I could, if anyone wants to make an exploration trip, you are welcome to stay here in Mocksville, I will put you under the Westinghouse sign Robert has his picture taken with!!!

I'm still in for a Labour Day weekend jaunt to Queensbury. If anyone else wants to rendez-vous, just let me know! That MW diswasher with an impeller looks like it needs a new home...

I would love to go!

But alas, no pickup truck :( He seemed to have quite some nice things that I would be interested in. Especially that avocado washer & the Whirlpool. I can only drive up there with a small car.

Great pictures Ken! Thanks!
Looks like a very fun place!
I just love all of the NOS Parts! Fun!

No pedestals. And the rubber gasket that's supposed to be between the control panel and the cabinet is MIA. If there had been pedestals I would have strapped the thing onto the hood of my Honda and taken it with me. This model is a DA 610 oddball, between the two official BOL's the DA520W and the DA620W. It's actually the 520 with the black and chrome styling of the fancier machines. The reason I liked this machine was the two toggleswitch keys for temp and safety start, unusual. Am still planning on getting it but will have to wait for my truck to get fixed. At this point it will not make it to Glens Falls.
Here's an illustration of it:
