"Softener Added" Switch on modern Whirlpools...and bleach dispenser question...

I've noticed this new switch on late model WPs...seems to have a standard dispenser...what exactly does this switch do?

Also, how do bleach dispensers work? Go over the slightest bit of 1 cup on my 2003 WP and bleach will end up in the floor. Where does it go to "hold" and what injects it in the wash cycle and where? May be simple questions to some of you, but I've always wondered.

The Softener Added switch changes the rinse from a spin shower/spray sequence to a deep-fill agitated rinse. EnergyStar qualifications, you know.

Bleach dispensers may be of different designs depending on the particular machine. Some are simply a funnel-and-tube that feeds the bleach into the outer tub immediately as it's poured in. Whirlpool does again have a timed dispenser on some toploader models that holds the bleach in a reservoir for later release. I've seen reference that the current dispenser design involves a wax solenoid. Overfilling the reservoir causes it to overflow, I'd imagine. As I recall, LK softener/bleach dispensers usually had an overflow between the two reservoirs that fed into the tub via the dispenser's normal outlet.

My DW will do a (ONE) wash and a (ONE) rinse on normal wash.
LIGHT wash is WASH-RINSE-RINSE.

I personally dont know why today's DW-ers don't default to one final rinse and no dry to get their numbers down. Then, with the push of two buttons one can add one or both (2nd rinser / heated dry to both to get the level of performance one considers normal.

Another thing that makes me insane, why add dry time for a cool dry? Why not just have the timer shut-off the machine when all water-action ends?

Efficiency is defined as doing the SAME job with fewer resources. One is not convinced that spray rinses in a top-loader are actually effective.

Dishwasher!

Steve doesnt your dishwasher have a purge and it strikes me odd that the light cycle has 2 rinses. What selections do u push 2 get a extra rinse? This all sounds insane - but today they all are!
