Anti static sheets vs. liquid softner? My moms friend broght some of her liquid softner over to try and she could't stand it cause of the scent or perfume smell. I tried a load and wouldn't use it again. Were back to the static sheets again but just half sheets and thats fine but it amazes me how people love that strong smell :(

Are there some liquid softner brands void of the perfume that drives some of us to nearly vomit...;)

Right. Dryer sheets aren't good for dryer (at least I've always heard that)

I think the KEY to using Fab Softener is to dilute it when adding it to the dispenser. I put 1/2 distilled vinegar and 1/2 fab softener, which ends up being not much fab softener at all. A bottle lasts me a LONG time...and when laundry is done, you have a hint of it, and not the overpowering smell....

I think the dryer sheets cause more of a problem with moisture sensor models than standard thermostat auto dry. My grandmother's Kenmore was bought new in 1981 and is still going strong with dryer sheets in every load. Same thing with my 2007 Frigidaire. However, neither has a moisture sensor.

Target also makes unscented "Up & Up" brand fabric softener, that is very good and much cheaper than Downy.

I wished I knew what you guys were using?...or how?

I can't get the scents to stay, whether I use Tide, Gain, Oxydol...powder or liquid......detergent and matching liquid softener, and sometimes a half sheet in the dryer.....smells good once you get the machine going, but by the end, its all gone!

by the time the dryer is done, there is nothing left, and I wished there were some clue that the fresh scent was there even a day or two...but nada!...

I don't think I do anything much different than most....standard for every load is the Regular cycle, Hot or Warm wash, Cold rinse(actually now with the cold weather Warm rinse is selected)...dryer is set to AUTO on High or Medium...

but there are a number of detergents/softeners out there that offer a lighter scent to no scent what so ever......

in the Summer I would line dry the blankets and sheets to keep as much scent in as possible.....but that may only last a day or two tops....

Try Suavitel. The Field Flowers scent lasts and lasts. I was cleaning out a bureau drawer a while back, and I could still smell it. That was in 2013 and the last time I had that brand was around 2009.

Yogi, I had the same issue when using Neptunes. Just goes to show you how well these machines rinse out everything. Same thing in the dryer with dryer sheets no lingering smell. Must be the high volume rate of air that they use. No smells left after. Not a bad thing in my opinion.

I don't like fabric softener

Most of them have a disgusting strong smell, and I'd rather do without it.

I use a scented laundry liquid detergent and that does everything I want it to, my clothes feel soft enough without needing a separate softener. I don't have a tumble dryer, and line dry all my laundry or hang on a clothes rack.

just call me "Mr. Complainer"

Many years ago when living in our first house in Cupertino the guy next door used some type of dryer sheets. His dryer sort of vented next to our patio and those sheets really stunk, like cheap perfume. I would joke that he was must be "entertaining" a lady that he picked up on the corner of Second & Market Streets in Downtown San Jose.

I like the smell of some liquid softeners although I think they make bath towels less absorbent. I usually buy Downey but started to notice it now seems diluted, thin and semi-transparent. I sent Procter & Gamble an email complaining and they were honest in their answer. They did indeed dilute the product due to the fact they had received many complaints from front-load HE users that the old Downey was clogging up their dispensers.

I wrote back saying that even my 14 year old Maytag has instructions to dilute the softener and that I assumed most new machines with dispensers say the say close to the same thing. I told them I was not pleased that diluted Downey (with water I presume) was the same price as the older more concentrated product. They did send me 6, $8.00 coupons which I will use before switching to a different brand.

ps...I had the same problem about a year ago with Crest toothpaste. I told them that their product had gotten so thin it was now a race to see if I could get the brush in my mouth before the toothpaste fell off. I got a bunch of coupons from them too. Sometimes being a beeach can have it's rewards.

I am the same as Yogi...

I cant get any scent to stay in my clothes either no matter what I do.

I have an Electrolux set and I am finding that when I use a fabric softener sheet the lint on the lint filter is really hard to remove. I think the sheets leave a deposit on the filter and gum it up. The filter on mine is very fine in texture.

I recently started using Safeway fabric softner and I really like the scent and the performance of the product. All of our laundry smells really nice after it comes out of the dryer, with no apparent waxy feel. And I have noticed that the sheets retain the scent all week after they are put on the bed. Also, we use cloth napkins and they smell really nice too as well as bath towels. I know that Safeway stores aren't ion every local, but I would imagine that one of their subsidiaries would carry a comparable product.

retaining scent in clean laundry

Yogitunes, try some Mexican detergent and/or fabric softener. VERY long lasting scent, not for me but the scent does last. Ace, Ariel or whatever brand your Latin American store may carry.

I've quit using fabric softener and sheets 8-9 years ago. Don't miss it.. I use vinegar in the washer.

I took apart my Neptune dryer a couple of years ago and ti was spotless all over.. On the other hand, my neighbor Kenmore/Whirlpool dryer were the same age, and she used both, and OMG, the dryer was a huge mess, lint caked in the blower, and pipes!

last winter was really cold, and I was getting a lot of static on the clothes, and figured I'd get the 7th Gen dryer sheets, and after two loads, I noticed the lint started to catch inside, on the lint filter housing, and I stopped after seeing that!

I used to love the smell of Downy when I was younger, not anymore.. I can't stand the smell sometimes when a dryer is going somewhere, and I smell it or a customer at work at times, it too much.
