Soil Settler huh?

Ok, i've been hunting down internal parts for this Whirlpool soil settler system for a LONG time and i finally found it.
The attached link is detailed parts and drawings of the "cheap" Whirlpool wash system. I have now seen all the parts of the soil settler/collector unit....but i still don't know how the damn thing is supposed to work! any ideas? anyone familiar with this enigmatic and esoteric soil management system? it's bugging the hell out of me! LOL.

All that really happens is that water is sprayed onto the dishes and is returned to the sump. The sewer grate over the sumps collects large food particles from the returning water, and there it stays. It does not dispose of the food particles.It must be cleaned by hand.The sewer grate is removable to be cleaned. It does have a powerful spray and washes well, considering. I don't think the pump has any sort of soft food grinder in it. The motor does reverse for drain.

John, you'll notice in your machine that the coarse sump strainer plate is one half screen & the other half a solid cover. Underneath the solid cover area, circulating wash water carrying food particles is slowed and the particles are directed into the funnel, past the unseated check valve ball and then into the accumalator cup aka--soil settler.

When the machine drains the water flow is reversed. Hence, the water is pumped into the cup from the bottom, forcing the check ball upward to seal the soil settler funnel sump to the tub. This prevents recirculation of the soiled drain water back into the tub.

The dishwasher drain outlet hose is attached to soil settler.....all the water in the tub is pumped through the settler cup to the drain. This action backflushes any accumuated soil.

Any large or hard food scraps will collect in the tub sump coarse strainer. They are to wiped up with a paper towel as needed. Scraping your dishes will greatly reduce or eliminate the need to attend to this. Hope this helps.

thank you so much. yeah this helps me understand much more. well, sounds like a decent system i guess. ANYTHING's an improvement over the crappy low pressure Frigidaire we have now.
