Solid State Black Kenmores

My aunt and uncle have owned 2 sets of these machines and I absolutely love them. I know some on here have mentioned that these machines are problematic, but they have never experienced any trouble with them. The first set they purchased in 1990 and kept until moving in 1999 when the people who bought the house wanted to buy the set off of them. They then purchased another set in 1999, around the time Sears was discontinuing this model. Their new house had the laundry room in the basement which was inconvienent for them, so they moved a laundry room upstairs which required them to buy a stacking set. They got LG frontloaders, and I was upset to learn that they got rid of the Kenmore pair. I thought they might have still kept it in the basement but that is not the case. Just thought I would share, and for those of you who have a model like this, could you post some pics please? Thanks!

They are nice machines. I have a black pair that was made in 1998. But I think they were designed to be on a service contract. I look and act nice and cute up until you have to get them repaired. The computer board and the touch panel are the most expensive. The dispenser system is problematic on all Kenmore 90 series machines that have the triple dispenser system. At one time I had 2 washers. 1992 Lady Kenmore Electronic 90 series and the 1998 pair. Computer board developed a short in the 1992 machine. Replacement board would have cost $299.95 and touch panel cost $499.95 just for the parts alone. After some intense searching I did find a refurbished board for $79.95. I ended parting out that machine last year and I sent the console and wiring harness to someone on this forum.

Electronics

These machines were very susceptable to electrical line problems. Noisey electrical outlet would cause the computer boards to start doing their own thing. I returned a set to Sears back in 1997 because the washing machine would turn itself on in the middle of the night and do something silly like spin and turn the water on and stay that way. Costing me a fortune in water bills. Sears wanted to charge me for a new board which were on backorder for over 45 days. Fortunately, I bought on six months same as cash. A quick phone call to the store manager and they came and got them. Wanting to charge me to pick them up and bring a different model set lost them a customer for life. Never been back to Sears and don't plan to ever again.
