I'm thinking SQ was the last one building solid-tub machines.
Don't know for sure, but wouldn't be surprised if WCI was the first to use plastic outer tubs, as they cheapened whatever they got ahold of. So maybe Kelvinator & Gibson.
Speed Queen was the last holdout on the solid tub washers, to their detriment in the CR ratings for years.
Whirlpool experimented with a plastic outer tub in the belt-drive MOL Kenmores for a very short time in the early 70's. John in Maryland has one.

Consumer Reports always rated solid tub machines poor in sand disposal. IIRC, the Whirlpool/KM direct drives machines were the first with plastic outer tubs. GE and WCI Frigidaire seemed to be the first with plastic inner tubs. Just my impressions, I could be wrong.
The last solid tub!
The very last solid tub machine was the 24 inch frigidaire adjitub. Was completly plastic. Inner and outer tub. Was made until the end when wci pulled from gm.

I have a Speed Queen Solid Tub. I must sau that it extracts water as well as my 1-18 and Maytag

WCI was the first to have plastic inner tubs.
Kelvinator and Gibson followed suit.
As for the outer tub, Kenmore DD were the first.

The plastic outer tub pre-dates the Whirlpool direct-drive machines by years - WCI was using it on their compact washers in the mid 70's and then that same mechanism design was incorporated into the Skinny-Mini cabinet and available on the market by 8/79 once the takeover of Frigidaire by WCI was completed earlier that year.

She's one of the last. No solenoid spin on this one but, the Overflow Rinses are there. She's one great machine. Got her from coldspot66.

Just before spin. That 210 arc stroke really moves those clothes. It's the same for the Brand New SQs. I believe on the new SQs... 5 year or ten on the Transmission. Unheard of these days.

What year is that beautiful SQ of yours? I thought they continued to manufacture solid-tub machines on into the 1980's.
I have two and one of them is a "large-tub" solid-tub machine with reversing motor that I thought was manufactured in the early to mid-1980's.
That combination of white porcelain tub and white agitator is very elegant. My late-60's (Three-Speed) SQ has the Gray and speckled porcelain tub and gray agitator.

apex probley had the first non metal tub or bendix econmat rubber tub machines. I don't know who had the last solid tub speed queen or frigdare skinnymini but its close to the same time does anyone know when SQ stopped their solid tubs?

The new Speed Queens have am excellent warranty...and it is...drum roll please....
3 years parts and labor
5 years limited warranty on cabinet assembly against rust inside and out. Year 4 thru 5 parts only limited warranty.
5 year year limited warranty on the motor.
10 years limited warranty on transmission assembly.
Lifetime warranty stainless steel washbasket and outer tub.
Not bad I say and better than a 1 year only warranty most others have.

SQ went to perforated tubs sometime in the early 80s. They were the last washers that came with a solid tub.
