Solid vs Perforated Tub

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Frigidaire had a remedy for that. You fill the tub with hot water, detergent and bleach and let it mix. Then spin the water out of the tub and stop the machine. Let it sit for about half an hour and then let it pump out the water. I suppose if it's bad enough, instead of passive soaking, you could hold the drain hose in the tub, moving it around to direct the stream of water around the 360 degrees the pulsator, not the tub (to reduce splashing), and let it spin to spray the recirculated water to really flush down anything on the inner walls of the cabinet.

CLEANING OLD FD SOLID TUB WASHERS

Yes I remember reading about this suggested cleaning procedure in Frigidare manuals, and I have tried it several times but the odor comes back. What I need to do is disassemble the machine and physically scrub out the crap, but in general I leave very old things alone as long as they work properly as this kind of project can turn into a major undertaking.

If it's a WO-65, don't you just remove the 4 philips head screws to tip back the top to scrub out the cabinet?

As far as perforated tub machines go, they can get some nasty build-up on the outside of the basket and on the inside of the outer tub like the build-up patterns on the inside of the plastic outer tub of Design 2000 machines and the goo that accumulated in the bottom of the GE Filter Flo outer tubs we used to see. Maybe any machine will crud up with improper laundering habits.

I like my solid tub!

My solid tub speed queen from the seventies seems to have no trouble with left over grit and I often wash muddy clothing from doing my gardening!
