Yesterday I received a rather large box from our very own "Crevicetool" Rick Winkler.  He had told me to be on the lookout for a box but I had no idea that it was going to be this large.  My first thought was there must be a vacuum inside.  Imagine my surprise when I discovered that it wasn't.

Inside the first thing I saw was a large very shinny pot, I thought what in the world will I ever cook in this!

After opening the rest of the items much to my delight I discovered that it was a mini WASHER!  I remember these from long ago but I had never seen one that had a shinny aluminum pot.  The ones I remember were always white porcelain.  Rick had found this in an antique shop in Atlanta and gave it a complete makeover.  He tuned up the motor, repainted the housing, replace the cord with a grounded one, and put a shine on the pot like I have never seen before.  Here is a picture of the complete unit.

It is a Silex, HandyHot.  We are guessing that this would have been from the 40's at some point.  Here is a picture of the label on the top of the machine.

There is a brass drain valve on the back of the pot that works perfectly without a drip.  If anyone has any information about this cute little guy I would appreciate hearing about it.

No washday would be complete without some detergent and a new iron to smooth out the wrinkles in those freshly washed items.  I was really surprised to also find an unopened box of vintage Vim detergent tablets in the box.  I remember these well.  One tablet should be perfect for a load in this machine.  And now for the dry iron.  It's a General Mills Tru-Heat iron complete with the original direction booklet entitled Ironing the Betty Crocker way, the original box, and a brand new never used pressing cloth that came with it. This iron is very special to me because it is the one my grandmother had and loved for many years.  Rick, thank you so very much for these fantastic gifts!!!!

Reply # 4~ I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT, TERRI

the unusual, striking agitator and new vintage machine motor top sitting all nice and classy with a mint and very vintage Maytag as the stage.

It's over the top, Man, and then the also classy brass lamp with golden light.

In the first house of my life, the older couple upstairs had one. It hummed very quietly, but you couldn't see what was going on in the tub because the agitator attaches to the lid, but you can place the lid upsidedown, attach the agi and watch the stroke.

I think that you can also heat the load on the stove, but I'm not sure. You may have a boil wash at your fingertips. What fun!

Recognized the agitator right away, imprinted since infancy

This is a great SURPEISE!!

I have never seen on like this with the shiny pot. That Betty Crocker iron is great. I have one just like it that was my mothers she used for touch up with the Ironrite ironer until she got a steam iron. These Berry Crockers really get good and hot compared to today's irons.

I know you will enjoy both.

Terry...

I'm just glad the stuff made it there OK. I was worried - you hear such horror stories. That washer needs a wringer----we'll be on the look out for one.

It does look nice on top of that pink fabric rejuvenating equipment.

Rick
