It's not the same. One requires a manual search, the other amounts to automated stalking.

I've stated my opinion and won't belabor this, since workarounds exist even if the feature is added.

But...

I'm sorry such a simple request is vexing you, Jeff. I also am not sure I appreciate my suggestion being compared to 'stalking'. Automated vs. manual stalking? Next, why don't we get Robert to create a way to make it possible for members to be able to opt out of being searchable by the Searchalator? Or their posts for that matter? If you find it objectionable that someone might be able to find any posts of yours, either manually or automatically, then think about not posting in what is essentially a PUBLIC forum where what you or anyone else writes becomes viewable by ANYONE. Personally, I wish that you would continue to post as I DO occasionally enjoy your posts if you believe me or not.

By the way, creating a 'bogus account' as an end around for the sake of posting so that 'stalkers' won't know it was you seems a tad extreme, right? Oh, that and it will get oneself bounced by the powers that be who don't care for that sort of thing...

Robert, How about asking if you can make it possible to allow us to send a single club email to more than one member at a shot. If I were to send an email to, say, Gordon and Kevin at the same time.

Hi Drew, I like both of your ideas a lot. Although Jeff I'm scratching my head here this morning trying to figure out why someone would be so against such an innocent thing, although maybe I'm missing something or not thinking it through so I'm open to listen.

To me it sounds simple, in each members profile there could be a button that says "follow this member" or "favorite this member". Then anytime someone on your favorite list makes a post that you haven't seen yet, a little icon could show up on the index list letting you know.

Again I'm confused as to why anyone would be against that, it's exactly how most social media/network sites work in some way or another. Can you explain further or do other members share the same concerns as Jeff as well??? If so please let me/us know.

Let's please discuss this calmly, since it is a good idea and it seems to be getting checkrates.

Ok, I have a suggestion. I was in a thread and repeatedly pressed the Rinse button expecting to see the whole thing. Then I noticed that there was a small link to the right I had to click. Why not make the big button the link to the full thread?

Some sites work that way. Not most, and not the ones that respect the internet as a utility. Many sites that do offer the feature (Google+/Youtube, Facebook etc) properly give users an option to exclude themselves from this tracking. That's all I'm asking for. The simple reason, for anyone who still can't understand, is that the feature can as readily be used for harrassment and/or stalking as for simple interest. If you've ever been on the receiving end of this nonsense, e.g. people who make it a point to threadpoop on every post of another user etc, you know what I'm talking about.

EDIT: I meant to add, I'd have much less of a problem with it, if DL and ATTT were excluded from the content searches.[this post was last edited: 4/4/2014-09:36]

No worries Jeff, I do like Drew's idea and if I do implement I will be sure to include an opt-out feature in everyone's profile incase they do not want their posts highlighted. Me personally I would take it as a compliment if someone followed me (not that I would know it because who follows whom will not be public), but if others have issues with it I want to give them the freedom of choice, I like choices.

As for excluding ATT and DL from content searches (I assume you are talking about the Super-Searchalator) I don't personally see how that is necessary nor helpful in any way since those posts are hidden from the general public to begin with.

As for the other suggestions, I like them all. I'm making a list of things I think would make for good enhancements. Keep 'em coming!

Robert, I've already spent way too much time on it, and you've addressed my concern in your last post. I explained it as best I can in my first few responses to Drew's suggestion, and I think only another several years will explain it to many people. Look at the checkmarks.

The Searchalator already gives users the ability to search posts by user, but automated posting history and tracking is a separate issue. Hence my comments about the internet being respected as a utility. Another example, a letter to the editor of a local newspaper is not permission for them to consolidate your entire correspondence history and to make it publicly available in one place. It also is not permission for them to allow subscriber-specific tracking and notifications of your future letters to them.

I love a way to "tag" a post to view again at a later time... For example, someone posts a pic, but I am on my cell phone or tablet, and would like to see the pic in all its glory when I get home to my big screen computer... I'd like to tag the post or the thread while out and about, and when I get home, go to a list of my tags, look at them, and untag them... Maytag and Nottag... (I know that will probably be a premium function)

I'd love to able to edit after 6 hours. In a recent post, I wrote "subs" for "suds," which is pretty funny -- who wouldn't love a machine that shoots out delicious subs?-- but when I discovered it a day later, I wanted it fixed.

I only ask because with my new computer, I have discovered the ability to edit way after the fact, on Facebook and at that one and only "corn" site I visit. Be so nice if I could do it here. I'm really not allowed to leave known errors in my written work or I could lose my Permanent English Teacher Certificate ;'D

One thought on the Rinse option....

I've come to really like the new rinse option on existing threads, I bet it saves a lot of server time.

 

One thought I had is that I wish there was a "Previously on..." option, or permanent setting with the Rinse button in threads.  This would simply be the previous 1 or 2 posts in the thread so we could know the drift the thread is taking.  If I come back to a thread after a few days and read a new post a number of times I need a refresher and then load the whole thing.  One or two posts back would jog my memory enough to be helpful.

I have to give a huge thanks to you for connecting me with other washer fans, up until 2005 thought I was the only one, as I have said on may occasion.

One thing I feel would be great but am not sure how practical it is....an ability to see who has "checkrated" your post/comment that has been made.
