I picked up two very nice convertibles this weekend while out thrifting at some estate sales.
The first one is a model 589 in a cool pink color (Hoover called it "victorian rose"). It is missing two snaps but is otherwise near perfect. It was built from 1969 to 1971. It is a very late production model as it has the two small ribbed foot pedals. The serial number is over 200,000!
The dark green one is a model U4087 and dates from 1975. It has the high performance two speed motor and has rear conversion. It was a promotional model, and had siblings in different colors such as gold. This one has a zipper bag and a full bumper but no headlight. I am not sure of the color name though. I really liked the bag including the hard plastic cover at the top.
Both machines were reasonable and came from clean older homes. It is getting harder to find an all metal convertible anymore so two in one day is worth getting excited about. These machines clean rugs so well too. Nothing cleans like a good old Hoover not even these new expensive plastic machines.
The pink model is going to a friend who is building a great Hoover vac collection and the green one is for me. I am still looking for other vintage 1975 convertible cleaners.
