I picked up two very nice convertibles this weekend while out thrifting at some estate sales.

The first one is a model 589 in a cool pink color (Hoover called it "victorian rose"). It is missing two snaps but is otherwise near perfect. It was built from 1969 to 1971. It is a very late production model as it has the two small ribbed foot pedals. The serial number is over 200,000!

The dark green one is a model U4087 and dates from 1975. It has the high performance two speed motor and has rear conversion. It was a promotional model, and had siblings in different colors such as gold. This one has a zipper bag and a full bumper but no headlight. I am not sure of the color name though. I really liked the bag including the hard plastic cover at the top.

Both machines were reasonable and came from clean older homes. It is getting harder to find an all metal convertible anymore so two in one day is worth getting excited about. These machines clean rugs so well too. Nothing cleans like a good old Hoover not even these new expensive plastic machines.

The pink model is going to a friend who is building a great Hoover vac collection and the green one is for me. I am still looking for other vintage 1975 convertible cleaners.

Great finds

Tom,

You found two oldies but goodies! I had a 589 a one point and I think it went to Fred S. That color was unmistakably the one and only 589.

Where I live we rarely have estate or thift sales with older machines--too many new folks moving here.

Thanks for the pics and information. You are a wealth of knowledge about the Hoovers. BTW, great to see you and your family at the convention. I hope to see you in Omaha or sooner.

They are both EXCELLENT,

but I guess I have to be the first one to say that I like the PANK one just a bit more, though I certainly would give the green one a home, as well.

What the ? You vacuum guys just might snag me yet.

Nice finds :-)

Hey Tom/All

The pink sure is pink lol!!. As it happens I was tempted by one on Ebay that ended yesterday, but unfortunatly the bank balance dictated otherwise :(. (Shipping to the UK is approx $80-90 by air so has to be factored in grr!.
Hoover UK were SO!! boring when it came to colour, the best example would be our 62-64 version of the 652A Senior(The Connie and Junior also)that came in the most boring two tone grey !.
Will sort a pic of mine, along with the late swedish green/smoke pine version(and a couple of their US cousins ;)when I get home tonight.

Love that green!

Wow! The green Hoover is awesome! The bag is stunning! Would love to have some capris in that terrific pattern!

Wasn't it wonderful how Hoover experimented with bold colour! Nothing like a flamingo pink vac to make that household vacuuming fun!

These are some really great finds!

Enjoy!
