I have some videos of my latest scores, and my vintage mint in box General Electric Portacolor to share.

This is the Roberts 450A reel to reel.

A unique Sony TC-124 cassette recorder... Stereo cassette recorder! And it has to have at least a 10 watt amp in it!!

A Panasonic front projection TV manufactured August 1978. It is missing the screen, but otherwise complete and working.

And finally, my mint in box General Electric Portacolor from 1968. This was the deluxe model with the clock and everything. My favorite!

Very interesting. Those GE Portacolors are quite collectable from what I have heard.
I had a Roberts Reel to Reel when I was in High School. I had it for a few years in college, then my parents sold it in a garage sale my third year. I think Roberts was made by Akai? Some models had the Crossfield head design. Mine didn't, but Roberts was big on that.

It's A Sony

KV-1212. Great!! I paid $15.00 at Goodwill recently for it. I knew it had to be special. I'm gonna watch your videos now. Thanks!

Love the You Tube videos...

of the televisions! I have picked up a few vintage TVs while thrifting as well. I have a 21" 1955 Bakelite Admiral. I had all the caps replaced (very expensive, wish I knew how to do it) and now it functions quite well.

I also have a cool mid 70's white plastic 12" colour Toshiba on an original swivel stand.

Your front projection tv is a real gem! What do think the screen looked like. Was it mounted directly on the console, or on the wall?

Very interesting, thank you for posting!

Neat peices of equipment! At the agency where I work the Sony TC124 cassette recorder brings back memories. They used those for feild recording in the 70's-early 90's.I would then hi-speed duplicate the tapes made from these and Sony 5000 cassette machines-repaired 'em too.I have seen the Roberts RR tape decks at small radio stations.Usually the small market AM stations would have these or similar machines. They didn't have the budget for more expensive tape decks. The Roberts served their needs just fine.I have a Magnecord stereo deck a radio station gave to me-Haven't used it for several years-bet the caps need replacing!Electrolytic caps are like batteries-if you don't use-em they die.

Oh yes-the GE Portacolor-a good friend of mine used to have one-was neat going to his house and watching the Sat aftnoon sci-fi shows on it.Later I had one-Don't remember what I did with it,now I wished I still had it.Got it from Salvation Army. The GE Portacolors were really nice little sets!

Panasonic and Magnavox

Here's a Panasonic cassette recorder, model RQ-212DAS, and a certain 1967 Magnavox Capstan Drive 2 inch reel, model 1TR111. I will be in the market for other Magnavox recorders, as I am a Magnavox addict.

Magnavox model 1P210

I have two of these, neither of them work. It was their rock-bottom record player of the late '60s.

I have four top products that I really go for. Magnavox, General Electric, Zenith and RCA. I have four of the Circle of Sound sets, two have radios, three have speakers. I love a good Zenith, and will be waiting!

Wow, you can't guess how badly I wanted one of those Porta Colors back when I was 14ish. Very badly!!!! And the Sony K1212 I found one last year as well in super mint shape, not a scratch, zip. BUT when we moved it was one of the things I had to let go of.

Oh Pete-with your luck, and location, perhaps another will show up. Being the GE freak, I too, badly want a Porta-Color in that design range. There is a beautiful '80s GE color set, 19 inch, and has the most beautiful sculpted wood grain cabinet, at our Goodwill. It's not a '68 Porta-Color, but it would take the sting of loneliness and longing away for a while.......

Homely is the word for that little Magnavox record player. I think they were made under different names as well, like Singer. Could have been a similar but different make though.

Mr. Murphy's Magnavox

Hows about a 1973 Magnavox color TV stereo theatre for $1,250.00, same as it set you back in '73? Over $6000.00 if you adjust '73s price. This image swiped off the eBay listing.

Can't kill a Portacolor

PortaColors still have my admiration as they were so incredibly durable. The older Compactron units just worked and worked and worked. Absolutely a gem of engineering. Sure they were tough to fix (especially the later AA/AB chassis) but boy were those well engineered.
I had a 1966 Portacolor which I used for decades until I sold it at a radio meet. My (approx) 1981 AA/AB chassis set still works on my bench. Tuner pooped about 20 years ago - $25 for a NEW tuner and the unit hasn't quit since.

Ebay listing

That's the guy I bought my Maganavox stereo from. Good guy and my stereo worked right out the box. Only made minor adjustments to get it working Magnificently.

Jason, that has to be the same set that was on "Hey,Remember?" on HGTV, when he was featured in the stereo set segment. I almost went nuts when I saw it. He sells top flight things. I don't have my beige set yet that I bought on August 15. It's coming from San Antonio, TX. Murphy the Magnavox collector unfortunately, is too busy and a little too upscale to keep a correspondence with me. I love Magnavox as much as he does.

63gettelevision: I have a Magnavox stereo entertainment console similar to the one you have pictured here, though my console is from 1968.

Mr_jms, the '68 console isn't a great deal different, yours would have that neat champagne color Micromatic with the angular tone/balance arms, they're my favorite Micromatics. Would you be able to post a picture? I'd have more space for the armoire model, but would'nt turn down the console.

SOMEWHAT INNOVATIVE?

I had the TV on the far left.
What do they mean SOMEWHAT INNOVATIVE?
By 1966 they had an IN-LINE gun at 10" diagonal!!! When most of the colorcasts were viewed on round-tube CRTs!!!
A low-tube complement, when most color sets had 30 tubes?
I don't remember the Porta-Color cabinet ever melting (unlike the Admiral 9" black and white where the rears seemed to always develop holes).
AT THAT TIME the Porta-Color was groundbreaking let alone innovative.

Yes I knew Westinghouse did that in 56. It was the companies way of heralding my birth, something new, something great, something to look forward to in the future wth great promise LOL

BTW that was a good website, never knew there were all those porta color permutations. I know I always wanted one from the first time they came out but being 10 that was out of the question. I also remember when the Sony came out in 69, now that was a tv and the picture quality and color just blew the GE out of the water at the time. Added to the fact the Sony "looked" new and modern and the GE, well sort of dowdy old school. Course those Sonys were outrageously expensive for the time which made them even more a pipe dream.
