Its hard to believe that its been a year since i posted bizarre questions about the logistics of how to supply my new Miele Little Giants with sufficient power to operate in their new place in my temporary residence high above the city in an aging but very distinguished apartment building. Now they sit obediently in the rear corner of the kitchen, purring quietly away, obediently doing their programmed tasks! It almost seems a lifetime ago since those days of concerned questions! I’ll always be moved by the concern from one or two members who, in my hasty rush to see what they were like “in operation” begged me not to run a dedicated ground for the appliances down the fire stairs and terminating in the planting beds in front of the building. (Visions of “Watch out!! -That rhododendron just electrocuted a peeing dog!”) The electrician finally returned from his overly lengthy vacation and sorted it all out! I posted pics of my former Miele’s plugs and the industrial versions of the same that were on my new machines.. i got advice…it was kind of them. Thank you!
The Miele technician came out on the specified a day to install therm… The svelte, meticulous, uber-professional Germanic-looking guy was amused by my greeting “Hi! There is a God, you found the place!… I always suspected that God wore a Miele cap! Anyway, glad you’re here” Showed him the tower of stainless steel and he said in an almost loving tone “Ahh! There they are!” Almost like he’d just been reunited with a pair of long-lost offspring! He immediately got down to work - and did lots of computer work on a laptop “setting perimeters" or something. I stayed out the way - but said before leaving the room “I want maximum water levels wherever you can do it, every possible program the thing offers, and maximum numbers of high-level rinses on every program” and left him and Lulu (my Bulldog) to make magic happen!! Shortly thereafter he was packing up his immaculate tools and telling me I was all set.. and showed me a few operational things and explained that one additional thing he’d like to do was to install the newest (just released) program profiles on my machines “because his boss had just called him and thought I’d benefit from them!… and just wanted to make certain I was in agreement with making the changes”! (I liked that!) So after he’d installed the profiles from his computer, nodded politely, shook my hand and left!
I immediately threw in in a load of Lulu’s disgusting saliva-drenched furry toys, added a scoop of Persil and BAM the Little Giant was off quietly doing its maiden load! Lulu was transfixed at the porthole… and the, almost immediately, turning in horror as see saw that her favorite Orange Corduroy Roadrunner was obviously a prisoner drowning in the new machine, releasing an almost heart-wrenching whimpering noise and giving me the dismayed/horrified/I-hate-you stare! (but was more than happy with the immaculate & extra-fluffy results shortly afterwards!)
Oh dear, this is getting LONG.. so i’ll wrap up! The machines are so very different to the residential ones I’ve previously owned! The quality is faultless. In fact I think they’re a bargain now I’ve had them There are so many nicer details than the regular residential machines (which are already so much nicer than anything else available!) Things like the paddles in the drum are more sleek. The washers drum is lit by a light so brilliant and clear, one can almost light ones way to Las Vegas! The dryer’s lint filter(which is a marvel of engineering in itself!) only needs to be emptied after 20 loads or something, and the machine’s display along with a polite but firm “audible tone” tells you when to do it! The dryer uses masses of air (sounds like a quiet and subdued tornado inside during operation) but at a very low heat to dry the clothes. This is very different to the other Miele dryer I had previously which used very warm to hot air - i called The technical dept to see if the cool air was deliberate or if the heater was malfunctioning perhaps They said it is totally fine and thats the way Miele does it now as its much gentler on the clothing (makes sense naturally!) I should have known that everything was perfectly functioning cus its connected to Düsseldorf or some HQ someplace (I forget where.) where its continually monitored via WiFi! However if anything goes awry then they are notified by the machine and they come immediately to fix whatever the machine determines is wrong with itself… or perhaps has someone call me if I'm habitually putting too much soap in it. So far its been happy obviously as I’ve not had visits from Miele. Conceptually it’s a bit weird for me as i don't like being overly “connected” but its also reassuring. The dishwasher apparently does the same!
The washer’s programs are fast but very industrious. It doesn’t wast a second! My W1215 was also a great machine (except for its dumbed-down-for-Americans programs and lack of “spin only” controls) but there were many periods when it rested between stages of the program for a minute or so! The Little Giant doesn't do any of that “waiting” its always doing something!! Filling pumping,tumbling, rinsing or spinning..it just ploughs though the entire thing, and the washing rhythms themselves are something to behold!! The whole process is much more sophisticated, tight and far more varied than the awesome residential machine was! And at the end of it all…Voilà perfectly clean laundry every time!! …. Jeez the Whites dazzle! Everything comes out perfectly! The dryer does the same delivering fluffy, soft and crease-free loads every time. The programs are all fully adjustable, every part of the program too, but in fact I fiddle with that a LOT less than I thought I would, its all set to do it perfectly anyway! Whoever thought those programs through are geniuses! and if i met them I’d kiss ‘em all and say “thank you for making me one heck of an unbelievable fine washing machine”
I don’t use the 3rd water inlet yet but will when the new house is finished, then I guess I can use rainwater for most of the parts of a cycle. I am having the AutoDos fitted to it so i wont have to screw around with the soap, softener and other things anymore It will do all that adding of products automatically too as the program requires. That’ll be a fun thing when it arrives… It will also make it totally foolproof for the cleaning woman. (The rotary iron will never be foolproof for her - but she's improving - nor is the temporary Swiss Laura inflating/sucking ironing system! - but thats fine ‘cus in a few weeks she’ll have to start all over with the new FashionMaster I dont see how she cannot love that thing…. she won’t, cus she hates almost everything, but she's not a “warm type” anyway (frigid would be more apt!) but she folds well! Perhaps I should fly “The (brilliant) Laundress” out here to try to get her to be more appreciatory, engaged and excited about the toys she gets to tinker with!? It’d be fun! Oddly, the ultimate testament unexpectedly came recently from a sibling. My younger brother (an Audi dealership owner so he gets the German thing big time!) and his wife came for Christmas. He loved the Little Giants, (as well as the LaPerla dishwasher, and Combi Steam oven) So much so, that before he left he’d ordered all the same things for his home which will be outfitted next week. (I mean, really - they had a vanilla GE top loader and a Maytag dishwasher! Embarrassing!) They’ll be enlightened and dazzled next week! Big Brother STILL has an influence I suppose!
Anyway sincere thanks to those that helped with the early planning part! and apologies for dropping off the map! Its been a busy year! But i just wanted to share my utter content with the machines, and feel fortunate to own them.
Oh and I have some disappointing news for the Malcolm guy on here who's endlessly salivating and coveting these things!! Bro, They DO NOT spin anti clockwise! (after seeing you mention a few posts, I was waiting for that thrilling sight !! They spin clockwise just like my previous W1926’s and W1215 did! i think if you saw it on a video somewhere its an illusion caused the TV or video setup.. just like the wagon-wheels in old western movies looked like they were going backwards. Sorry to break the news, but really, who cares which way they go… they clothes come out almost dry! Get yerself a set already mate! They're fantastic[this post was last edited: 1/20/2015-07:27]
