Some weekend finds

While out checking out estate sales, I came across some neat finds. First up is a Motorola Record player. Supposed to be portable, but it is huge and rather heavy. Currently doesn't work. Something with the amp. The turntable turns but no sounds coming out. It does have a good needle.

Next up is this Guild Country Belle Radio. Guild was a novelty radio company in the 50's. This is one of theirs they had. It was made to look like a vintage wall crank phone. To turn it on you lift up the ear piece. To turn it off just place the ear piece back down on the lever.(the lever is the on/off switch.) The crank is used as to change the station. Then there are two knobs next to the crank, one for tone and one for volume.

Lastly is this Grundig tape recorder. Has the microphone and the thing that would attach to the headset to record both sides of a phone conversation. Haven't checked it out as of yet.

Well since I got it installed this weekend, I'll go ahead and post it here as well. I had the seat in my 69 Ford F100 redone and it came back last week. I then installed a new carpet kit in the truck. Here is a picture of it all put back together.

I can remember using the Stenorette when I was transcribing for court reporters in Los Angeles and Ventura counties here in California. This was before the use of computers. I also scoped for a reporting firm in Ventura when CAT (computer-aided transcription) came in.

The new truck seat looks comfy. Did they replace the foam as well as the seat cover?

Yes they replaced the foam. They also had to fix some of the springs. It is really comfy.

Truck Envy!

You've really done well by that truck. Those of you in drier, warmer climates have it much easier than those of us here in the Rust Belt (which is called that for a freakin' reason) have it.

To have a classic car or truck in that condition here in the Midwest, you have to put it away for the Winter.

All Winter. Every Winter.

I grew up in Minnesota, so am very well aware of the Rust belt and its effects on cars and trucks. I had a 74 Gran Torino that the interior was perfect and the engine ran great, but just was rusty. That's a bonus for here in AZ. This truck was sold new here in Phx, and from what I can tell spent its entire life here.

That's a good looking Motorola R/P....good luck getting it to work again - tube unit? I hope you get it working again.

Ah, comfort returns to the truck. Are those the original seat colors that went into the truck? Does look very nice.

I believe that the Motorola is a tube unit. I haven't looked into it. Just tested it out and the turntable plays, just not getting any sound from the amp.

The light tan of the vinyl is roughly what the truck originally came with. It was a two tone parchment as they called it. I decided against a vinyl insert, since it gets rather HOT here in Phoenix. I think the cloth looks excellent.

They did a beautiful job on the

Ford seats, it would be difficult to tell that they aren't original if you didn't know. . . . .

 

I have a Motorola  " three channel "  portable configured like yours. I think it may be a year or two older. It features a rather dull

 

gold alligator vinyl hide. What is the big gizmo on the top center front of your cabinet? Mine is  plain all the way across.

The big gizmo thing on the top of the Motorola is a knob. If you turn it, it unlatches the top and the front speakers. That way when you are carrying it around they don't flop around and it doesn't have the little latches on the side, like most had.

I would check the tubes in it first, then recap the amp. That should fix any problems it may have.

That's a nice job on the truck seat. It looks more leather than vinyl.
