While looking at videos of Frigidaire top-loaders, I came across some vids I made of my 2013 Frigidaire Immersion Care with its faux impeller agitub.

The account is now listed as "Zola Alloy" (mine was called "Zinc Alloy"--a T. Rex reference) and has a different icon! Don't know when the hack occurred, as I haven't checked those videos in ages.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, use 2-step auth

It works. Someone hacked my typeracer/discord/gmail account. Now, every time I sign in, it pops up on my phone to "accept" or "deny"

So..

1. Change to password to a complex one (use a password manager to save passwords so you don't forget) I use lastpass

2. Use 2-step auth

I'm trying to figure out what the point of this hack was? I mean, there are just a few washing machine videos on there. What did the person think they would gain?
 
You cannot leave websites, accounts, etc....

For long periods as if they were abandoned. Eastern European/Russian hackers (among others) constantly troll the internet (via a vast and bewildering array of bots) looking for such things.

It is also important to shut down any potential back doors, hot linking chances and so forth that will allow someone else to gain control of your site or whatever.

Many hosts/sites are doing their best to help put a stop to these things; but unless or until customers take advantage of various upgraded security offerings (such as two step authentication) they just leave themselves open.

Sadly content theft/hacking on Youtube is rampant, but there are ways to deal.

Thanks for your input, everyone. I have no desire to try to reclaim the YouTube account. Chances are slim-to-none that I'd ever post another video; and if the ones I posted get deleted by the hacker, it's no real loss.

So, is 2-step authentication/verification something I set up through my iPad/iPhone/MacBook? Or do you set up a 2-step at each website that offers it? I've heard of 2-step, but never paid much attention to it.

Launderess, my YouTube account was inactive for years. I posted the videos in 2013 and replied to a few comments early on, but otherwise it has been sitting idle.

Why anyone would want to hack washing machine videos is bewildering. Or maybe the party involved was just hacking into whatever accounts they could crack with no real rhyme or reason. As Mark mentioned, what do they have to gain?

I have two e-mail accounts (Yahoo & Gmail), but no social media. Neither of the e-mail accounts has been hacked.

It isn't always about content per se, but how modern internet works especially advertising along with site value.

Thanks to Google (for most part) everything today is about clicks. The more traffic that goes to your site, the more Google's bots (among others) track and subsequently site can (often does) get a higher SEO ranking.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) numbers are what the internet is all about these days. Everyone and their mother with a website is seeking to increase their rankings (and subsequent value) by getting volume of traffic.

In script kiddie days of old anyone could throw up a Geocities site, plug in some keywords and voila; they had so much traffic and hits were top of serach engine rankings. Goggle (and other search engines) now have changed that all way around.

Their bots and algorithms look at content not just keywords; so web developers have to put more work into sites in order for them to be "noticed" by Google or whoever bots.

Obviously not everyone has the time nor skill to create a powerful website that will entice hits/clicks. So they just go out and hot link or otherwise steal content. Like parasites these people feed off another host. Increasing traffic to their site/pages by using visits to other's. If site owners aren't careful that isn't all; as various malware can be inserted into the host website that will affect visitors. Once this happens Google and others will drop the infected site leaving owner to sort out the mess.

Internet is littered with abandoned and or rarely attended to websites. Just as vermin will seek out undisturbed sites for nesting, hackers love these "abandoned" or rarely checked on by owner websites because they can slip in and do their dirty work with low to nil risk of being detected.

Worse many websites/pages put up don't even bother using built in protections offered to lock down their sites to protect against hot linking or whatever.

Every website host service provider provides at least some rudimentary stats report. There one can see who and where visits to their site is coming from, and more often than not there are a few to scores of .ru or .porn or other sites they've never heard of. These sites are generating "hits" for the host website because they've either hot linked back, and or otherwise stolen/glamed onto content.

Have never understood why if people no longer want to be bothered with a website or page not just shut the thing down.

Another issue is by not challenging copyright or whatever infrigement, after a while of allowing things to happen any possible future legal recourse is not possible. That is you cannot discover someone is using your content, then allow it go on for years then turn around and make legal claims.
 
Hopefully your Youtube account is with a different username than your Google mail account. Otherwise they can not only get into your Youtube account but also have access to your mail. It may be the reason to hack that account in the first place, to get access to a mail account.
 
I often think my work website is too overly secure...

Even on my big computer which is not a shared device, nothing is on any cookies... It means I have to look up the site and enter my user number and password, and the same with my iPad and phone...

It makes things more of a hassle for the owner of, and I mostly need to go there to look up my schedule and get my very occasional day off...

Now what exactly what kinds of hacking would really go on there?
