SOMEONE save this Bendix in Dayton!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

pre ww2?

looks like it might be a pre ww2 bendix?-thought i saw one
like it in a 1938 picture.
If only stuff like this would show up in my area!

Actually...

I'm calling about it now. Wes said he can pick it up. These are small, light, and easy to move. I've never seen one with a chrome handle before. The ad says Model 5. Any guesses as to vintage?

From Wes:

I'm picking the machine up on Friday, and Dave is already trying to convince me to install it in the kitchen. Does anyone have any 1890s washing machines? He doesn't seem to understand that 1938 isn't period for 1893. :)

At least for the time being it will probably live in the basement along with all of the other machines. I think we're going to get rid of the two KitchenAid Dishwashers (one to a friend, and one to my Grandmother hopefully) and that will free up some space for the Bendix. As I've never seen one in person, I'm curious to see just how small it actually is. I haven't seen too many pictures that show an accurate scale for them. I hope it works...as they haven't tested it. I can't imagine using that as lawn ornamentation as they suggested though. Do you leave the door open and let the plants grow out the front? The things people put in their yards!

search "1938"in the searchalator and you will find a thread
with a pic of this style of bendix in a 1938 kitchen-that
will give an idea of the size.Because there is no suspension
and no counterweights,it is lighter than more modern F/Ls,
of comparable size, probably around 150-160LB-about the weight
of a heavier dryer.

I guess they're about 30"x36"? They're pretty nifty looking machines, but how do they compare in terms of water usage? Do they, like modern front loaders, use less water for their (small) capacity? I also guess I should take my truck instead of Dave's Hatchback for this one still. I was hoping to get away with using way less gas. My Volvo is living at my parents whilst I borrow the truck. For a tiny Nissan it sure doesn't sip daintily.
