hello everyone?

ok i stumbled across this and just laughed my head off! you really need to read this i cant believe what we have come to people who hate fabric softeners! im looking forward to hear everyones opinion!

leol=laughing extremely out loud pfffff

peace and plenty of fresh scents to all ;P

Yes, I agree. The person behind the ban campaign says they got their impetus because of the fragrance of Suavitel invading their home after new neighbors moved in and started using it.

This begs an obvious question: instead of going to all the time and effort of starting a class action suit against the manufacturer, why not simply ask the neighbor to use some other product?

PS-I have a similar issue - my neighbor's dryer exhaust is about six feet away from my enclose patio and points directly at it. I can tell that they use dryer sheets because the patio gets filled with the fragrance when they do their laundry (the enclsoure is somewhat drafty). It's not a big deal for me; it happens maybe once a week. Otherwise if it really bothered me I might purchase some unscented liquid softener and give it to them.

ditto to that

i would approach the neighbor if i had a dryer venting into someones property somehow or led to there property i would change it. funny though my uncle next door and our other neighbors when we hang the laundry outside it smells like 3 bottles of fabric softener. we never had complaints prefer that to there cigs though.

I Actually Kind of Sympathise...

Today's heavy floral scents are rough on me, and on several people I know. So far, I've been able to do workaround, by choosing brands carefully, but it's kind of hard being cooped up with someone who uses loud-smelling laundry products. Fortunately, since I'm a writer and editor and work from a home office, I'm able to avoid the problem most of the time, though my last visit to the movies was a little rugged.

For now, what I'm doing works for me personally, and I'm old enough to take the attitude "This too shall pass." Someday- and probably not too long from now, either- some detergent company will create a formulation that has the clean smell of yesterday's products, and flog it with commercials that tout the product's lack of "perfum-y cover-ups". The pendulum swings one way, then it swings the other, y'know?

But if someone's this sensitive to a given product (especially one so popular at the moment), I do feel for 'em, because it's not easy to avoid fragrances in this world.

If the so called "stench" is invading this person's house with the windows closed, I would hate to see their heating bill during the winter!! The place must leak air like a sieve!! I would suggest they use a clothespin on the nose, or shove a couple of foam plugs up there. I wish I knew where they lived, so I could send the neighbors a case of Lilac scented Suavitel!

This persons "case" sounds so silly any court judge should throw the case out.Sounds like something else is triggering his "problems"In my area Family dollar has suavitel-think I get some--see how "hazardous" it is?Will I die??the "lilac" flavor sounds like a good test case!Also--will this man want to ban vacuum cleaner scents-deodorizers?

Sounds to me like the hysteria going on about global warming, second hand smoke, etc. It is people who have nothing better to do with their time.

I don't know from Suavitel, but there have been cases where innocuous chemicals have been found out to be quite nasty. I had a friend who threw a big queeny fit whenever anyone made microwave popcorn with butter flavor. He said the smell made him sick. We thought he was just a big diva, but then it turned out that the stuff was actually quite toxic, and was killing people in the factories it was made at.

Personally, I don't care either way about fragrances, although I can't stand "orange" scented sprays. It reminds me of baby aspirin.

FS

I love Suavitel, in moderation. A little goes a long LONG way! I recently finished a bottle of Costco Kirkland liquid FS that worked rather nicely. My mother has recently switched from dryer sheets to Downey liquid. No one else in the house seems to be able to properly dose liquid FS, however. They pour it into the GE Adora until the FS dispenser is full. The new Downey is about the consistency of slime and it does not get washed out of the FS dispenser and the stench is indeed overpowering. I think many problems with too-strong scents could be rectified if people used the appropriate dose for their needs/washing machines.

Too much of a good thing,
Dave

I'm allergic = I don't like it

I get so tired of hearing people whine about their so-called allergies. So-called because they have never had any kind of medical diagnosis, and just use it as a convenient excuse to moan about things they dislike. Perhaps they would do well to spend a day walking in the shoes of someone who has a REAL allergy, one that debilitates them and makes their life a living hell.

Finding the scent of a particular fabric softener repulsive does not mean it is "having an effect" on their "central nervous system". I could apply the same logic to the smell of rotting garbage, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's correct. Unless they have had a medical diagnosis confirming this (and I see no mention of such anywhere on their cobbled-together website), one can only assume they're merely pulling the phrase out of their ass having heard it on TV somewhere. That doesn't make them well informed, it makes them a parrot.

If this person wasn't so serious about the whole thing, it would be hilarious...

I think the writer of that website has neighbors who are using the Suavitel 3X product. For awhile, all the regular strength Sauvitel disappeared from our grocery shelves and was replaced with the 3X stuff. If you use it at the recommended strength, it's so strong it'll bring tears to your eyes! I think those neighbors bought the 3X stuff and is dosing it like the regular formualtion. That would be the equivalent of a floral atom bomb!
Fortunately for us the regular Sauvitel Baby Fresh scent came back. We only use about 1 oz of it per load. It does smell nice. But we only use it once every blue moon.

BTW. we have a bottle of the Sauvitel 3x "Floral Fields" that we'll give away to anyone who wants it, free of charge! We'll even pay the postage to get it out of here! The bottle is 99.4% full! If anyone wants it, just pm me.

Lawsuits, no...common sense, yes...

Reactionary lawsuits are stupid, without a doubt, but excessive scents and perfumes are dangerous to people who are sensitive to them...they can cause asthma attacks or bronchial shut-downs in extreme cases. I grew up with asthma, and there's nothing more frightening than not being able to breathe, and that includes being assaulted with heavy perfumes or scents that make my bronchials slam shut.

I know that neither me nor Char can stand ANY sort of scent on our laundry at all. It really can be debilitating for someone who is sensitive to smells. We use unscented liquid detergents (either Purex or Arm and Hammer) and and prefer no softeners, although we have used the Downy unscented on occassion. Our clothes smell clean, and neutral, not like some horrible floral or chemical spray.

When we shop at thrift stores that launder their clothes in smelly products, we have to run the soak cycle on the Maytag, soaking them in soda to remove the smells before we wash them. It's not pleasant to have your air passages clamp shut just because someone thinks clothes have to smell like they've been soaked in a gas-station bathroom air freshener to smell "good".

Same goes for people who wear unbearable amounts of cologne or perfume or aftershave. Going around smelling like the perfume counter at some department store isn't really impressive...just makes me wonder why they hate the way they normally smell...for cryin' out loud, folks, just shower regularly and use an unscented deodorant! Same goes for those awful "plug in" so-called "air fresheners" and heavily scented candles. Keep your house clean and you won't NEED to stink the air up to make it smell "good."

~Our clothes smell clean, and neutral, not like some horrible floral or chemical spray.

Whites, well washed and well rinsed smell oh-so-fabulous. Even the dryer's exhaust smells good!
Artificial scents have been linked to various cancers (BIG SURPRISE HA!)
Proving once again....LESS IS MORE. Life is like a gentle KISS. (Keep It Stupidly Simple).

Love the mentality. It bothers ME so ban it for everyone.

I find that most of the Suavitel scents are a bit much. But not as bad as the Lavender/Vanilla scented Downy. That stuff to me is way too strong and stinks to the high heavens. Our lovely tenant uses that stuff and fills the softener dispenser full of the stuff. I keep telling him...and yes its a guy...that alittle goes a long way. I use most of the time the Original Downy April Fresh. To me thats a clean smell coupled with Powder Tide HE...cant be beat.
