Last week, someone offered an old Frigidaire Cycla-Matic for free. I usually don't have a lot of interest for fridges that need defrosting and my interest for most things made before the "Sheer Look" period isn't very strong but 1955 Frigidaire appliances are an exception among the earlier ones as I really like them! This ain't a Cold Pantry or one of those nice two door models but it's still an Imperial, model CIV-103C.
I don't find this exact model in most of my reference books which show a "Deluxe" CDV-103 model instead and a smaller CIV-84 as being the Imperial model. Is this an error in the Frigidaire books or another Canadian oddity? My 1955 Canadian parts book does list a CIV-103 but my Teck Talk (which is the same as the US version) doesn't...
The trim and door have seen better days but it still works. It will need a new door gasket and I'll be searching for an inner door panel or at least the door shelves and butter conditioner door that are missing. If anyone has parts for these, let me know!
I didn't do much to it so far. I just fixed the light switch that wouldn't turn off the light when the door was closed, replaced the door handle that was working but cracked (I already had one) and that's about it.
The refrigerating system seems to be OK, it has a hard time dropping the temperature in the refrigerator section below 40°F but I think it's because of the dry door gasket that leaves an open gap with the cabinet when the door is closed. The freezer gets to -10°F and the compressor does cycle on and off with the cold control at any setting. All the indications on the cold control knob are gone but it does it's job.
